Hey guys,

Just an open question really as I'm curious how peeps are earning money week by wek, month by month through Internet marketing?

I'm currently doing well in offline marketing, but looking to dip my toes into affiliate marketing over the next month or so...

So what are you doing at the moment?

    RIGHT NOW?

Well, I'm not making any money right now. I'm done for the day :p.

In general, a safe majority of my income (unfortunately) comes from a service based model (providing content). In January, I started affiliate marketing myself. Things are starting to take off, and after the summer I'll ease out of writing for others completely and work for myself .

I'd also say that if you have the skill set to be an affiliate marketer, don't tip your toes in. Jump into that pool. My biggest regret is not getting started sooner with a method that I knew I could do.

In my opinion at least, you need to know or be able to do the following in affiliate marketing:

        1. Know how to read a Niche: I don't mean being able to scope out keywords, competition, or anything like that. You have to know how gauge your target audience, find out what they need, and find out how to give it to them. This is a fundamental aspect of marketing period, not just affiliate marketing.

        2. Be able to plan a traffic strategy and stick to it: We could go on and on about what type of traffic strategy is the best (*ahem* article syndication *ahem*); but for the sake of this post we'll just leave that argument out. You need to figure out what will work for you, what you can do consistently that will always return results.

        3. Know how to choose the right product: This ties into number one and being able to read your niche audience. The parallel to this is finding a product that also works for you as an affiliate. So far, I have worked off Clickbank. This list has helped me qualify/disqualify products.

More important than those three though is the skill that you can least survive without:

        4. The ability to build trust: Affiliate marketing hinges on this skill. The entire point of the money making method is that your customers will go through and buy a product just because you recommended it. If you can't put in the time, effort, and provide the proper value that earns your customers trust, then you are dead before you start.

Those are the big four in my opinion. Covers the broad scope of affiliate marketing at the very least.

Yeh I completely agree, I would like to stop working for others and make my living purely from affiliate marketing... Will be in a position to invest/grow this in around a month...

May I ask - which niches have you chosen to promote products for?

I'm sorry; but it would be poor form to give the specific niches away . The last thing I want to do is invite competition (not necessarily a knock against you; but there are 460k+ people potentially watching). They are topics I love though, and have an intimate knowledge of. <<<(That's a hint)

Honestly, I think that physical products are the easiest to get started with. Especially with Amazon it feels like it's almost too easy to make money. If you go the info-product route, make sure you build a list. If you go with marketing physical products it's less important (my opinion, anyways) but still recommended.

Of course, I hit a plateau with my own affiliate sites and have thus taken a hiatus to expand my writing service since late '11. I'm currently doing that until I have enough seed money to dive fully into either PPC or outsourcing...I haven't decided which yet.

Without being too revealing, here are some niches I've promoted affiliate products for:
      • Coffee niche
      • Exercise niche
      • Infidelity niche
      • Wedding niche
      • Furniture niche
      • Pet niche
Just about all of those niches have both e-products and physical products available, so you can pick and choose as you like.

Would anyone else like to share what they are currently doing to earn a living online?

Well, if you'd asked me that a couple of weeks back, I'd have told you I was building AdSense sites as a side line, building up the revenue and flipping them and the main way was running a couple of decent affiliate sites.

That was a couple of weeks ago though.

Then Google fell out with me and shut the AdSense account, de-indexed all my websites, since the data was in their accounts. Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools.

So right now, I'm not making a penny. But, what I am doing is working out what needs to be done in the next wee while to get myself back on track.

The way I'll be doing that is focusing solely on providing a service. Freelance Writing. Once I do start I'll be sticking with that business model for a long time and I won't be dipping my feet into different ways.

I reckon where I went wrong was dipping my feet into the freelance business, while I had far too much going on with other sites. Now that they're away, it gives me the time I need to focus on working on business.

Driving that forward before even thinking about anything else.

If you're looking for advice on where your next step should be, my advice is that if your offline business is working for you and you're ready to move on then go for it, but don't neglect it to pursue a business with this "Passive Income" patter. It's only passive if you maintain it. I don't think anything is set and forget.

Stick with the one business model...get that working for you then in your spare time, look into other things.

I'm into blogging. If you want to get into affiliate marketing, blogging (on Wordpress) is a great way to go. It's pretty much become a standard way to make money online these days. I really like the residual income aspect of it.

    Good luck,
