Suggestions: Project Management Tool & Intranet

INTERNET MARKETING

I am exploring options for a project management solution with intranet capabilities and invoicing.. to manage a virtual team and client billing.

Options that looked promising so far:
1. Basecamp
2. Highrise
3. Freshbooks

Any alternatives?

  yes, but zoho is not simple (and web2.0 style).. like basecamp. Are there any similar tools (preferably which I can host on my own servers) like basecamp?

  - a lot like basecamp but based on PHP and hosted on your own server. Supposed to be very good but have no experience with the latest version. You can try it for $10 for one month on their server.

  But I want to avoid the shipping costs of sending my notes (almost daily) to my virtual assistants overseas..
  
  Grrove is good, but I am just overwhelmed by the so many extra features it offers. Then others may not be so tech savvy..such as content writers.
  
  Same problem exists with dotproject. I used it for abt 3 months..but then my team refused to use it..lol.
  
  Activecollab looks promising, probably giving it a try is worth the effort.
  
  So far, basecamp looks a winner, unless I create something of my own

  I've deployed xtuple for several clients this year. Its a power packed ERP that has all the capabilirties you described and more. The PostsBooks Edition of xTuple ERP is an entry-level offering, available completely free and open source, and suitable for small businesses of all kinds. It includes full financials; robust CRM; Sales and Purchasing; financial and ad-hoc reporting; and lightweight inventory, manufacturing and distribution. I use it for my marketing company and just finished an install of the Standard Edition for a clients regional magazine. It might be worth a look for your company. Here's a link.
