For your homepage - how many words?

hi,

im starting a new site, usually im making a static page on the homepage
with about 500+ words..

but due to recent panda(s) i think is not enough, as content is becoming more and more important...

what is your suggestion for an homepage article? 1000 words? 2000 words?
please don't tell me the longer the better or something like that because it wont really help me..

    hi friend, on which panda update r u talking about. In every panda update google talking for freshness and uniqueness not for length of page content. so don't worry for limitation update content according to you.

    So you already know 500 words is not "acceptable" - and you don't want us to tell you the longer the better?

    What are you waiting for then? For a Google employee to come here and say "according to our content algo, an homepage with 2234 words is the best"?

    lol, I am no Google employer but generally I'd say anything above 1000 words is fine for a homepage.
