Anybody else getting a bunch of temporary holds by PayPal? What does it mean?

Hi Guys,

Since Feb 23rd, PayPal has been placing temporary holds on transactions, like small Paypal debit card purchases, and recurring transactions to Tracfone, a prepaid cellphone service provider. These holds typically lasts for just one day and are then reversed the same day. The last one to Tracfone, lasted 2 days.

Keep in mind, these are purchases I'm making and not payments I'm receiving.

I'm confused as to why this sudden activity by PayPal. I do nothing out of the ordinary at all. Not sure if I should call them and ask them. With their history of bizarre behavior and subhuman employed help, I don't want to draw any further problems into the mix.

Just seems strange.

Anybody else see this type of activity recently?

Guess it's time to pay everything with my bank card and forget PayPal entirely.

Craig

    Hi,

I would call them. It might take some effort, but I'm sure you can get it worked out.

If you dislike and distrust PayPal so much, maybe you ought to stop using them.

A temporary hold is placed on funds within your account when a merchant requests authorization for a transaction, but before the transaction is finalized. When the transaction is final, the hold is reversed and the money removed from your account in a different transaction.

There's nothing to call them about, this is normal behavior for a cc/dc processor. And it's been happening since you've been using your debit card, not Feb 23.

BTW, your bank card does the same thing, you just don't see the detailed behind-the-scenes internal transactions.

Hmmmm. Never saw that in the transaction history before. maybe they include it now? Don't know. Just never saw it before. If it's normal, I'll just leave it be.

This isn't about me distrusting them so much. I'm wary and healthfully cautious. If I see something out of the ordinary, I take notice. Thanks for your advice though.

It's normally only in the detailed transaction history, not on the overview page, maybe that's why you haven't noticed it before now.

Ah, that makes sense. Yes that's where I was. Thanks.

Sorry about the post guys. False alarm. Thanks for your replies though.

"Pending" has always been part of any debit transaction process - it's not a paypal "problem"

In fact, it's not any sort of problem - no reason to call anyone. There's nothing wrong so you don't have to fix it...ain't that great?

    Hi Craig,

I know that sometimes if you spend more than what you normally do they limit your account it may be something to do with this?

It happened to me once so I rang them verified my account and went through some stuff with them and they gave me a higher limit.

Best thing is to give them a call - to be honest I was quite impressed by their customer service.

As a seller, i always receive the payment like this if the money is paid by using debit card or eletric check. It will be pending in my paypal account and it will be cleard in the future date.So i think it is the same situation in the buyer's paypal account. I think paypal protect the buyer;s benifit a lot.At present , it will hold the payment 21 days for the new seller on ebay selling.I am under this pressure too.lol

This hold is on all paypal accounts. There is really nothing that you can do. I have changed to Intuit to process my non ebay transactions which is very nice. They take out a very small fee and if i process a payment on monday its in my bank account by friday.
