Best hosting to use for WORDPRESS blog

I am currently in the process of creating a blog that I am going to use WordPress with.

My question is, what is the best way to do this? I already have a purchased domain through GoDaddy, so would it be best to just add the wordpress.org plugin through GoDaddy's hosting? Or is there a cheaper alternative that I could use for web hosting/setup.

I am still a little confused on how the whole thing works when you install Wordpress.org onto a domain, so if someone could clarify the process for me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Do not only consider cheaper alternatives. There are a lot of good hosting providers out there. Ease of installing third party services, past track record, response to customer queries etc is what you should base your hosting provider selection on.

I work with Hostgator. And I highly recommend it - there have been no hosting issues as such and their response times to customer queries are really praiseworthy.

As far as installing wordpress goes, go to your hosting provider's site(after you have purchased the hosting) and usually, in most of the cases, wordpress installation is a one-click process.

From Hostgator, once wordpress is installed, are the updates that you make to your site all done through the wordpress interface or is it from the Hostgator website creation software?

I created a site with the Hostgator service, and found it to be junk.

      Thanks,

I like to use Bluehost when I'm doing anything wordpress related. The reason for this is it has a simple plug-in that I have found very useful. I don't know what other hosting companies use a similar one click stile install, but Bluehost does and they are reasonably priced as well.

    Thanks for the tips guys.

I'm going to compare Bluehost and Hostgator and most likely go for the cheaper one, since they both sound like they will get the job done.

I recently changed from hostmonster to hostgator less than 2 days ago and now I don't regret it. I've run into some small problems so far and their customer support is awesome! It's also fairly priced and installing wordpress is quick and easy

Is the WordPress admin interface pretty user-friendly and easy to use?

I have heard from most people that it is.

Also, what is a good, formal, professional looking theme? Preferably a free one as well.

Hello, I use Hostgator for all of my websites and that is about 150 Websites. I really love hostgators customer support and great service. They are inexpensive and have excellent Customer Service. It is so good, I have to say it again in all caps...

THEY HAVE EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SUPPORT!!!!

I have used many hosting providers in the past, and I have found that Hostgator is the best. What I love about hostgator is that you can install wordpress in like 3 clicks. Really. I have never known an easier way to create the bare bones of a website than with Wordpress. Now to further clarify your question in detail...

I am not sure as to your level of skill with this type of stuff, so I am going to give as much detail as possible as many people never answer the question as to how I would like it to be answered and just give a short response.

BELOW IS THE DETAILED WAY ON HOW TO DO IT WITH HOST GATOR!

There are usually 2 ways to install Wordpress on your domain & hosting account and I see these 2 ways as:

      Easy and Hard

      Here is the Easy way...

EASY - I would go with this one - Once you purchase HostGator there are a few steps before you can install wordpress.

      1. Go to godaddy and point the name servers of the domain name to your hosting account...( I know this can sound TECHNICAL AND SCARY) But don't worry its not!

This is how to point name servers
      A. Log Into your godaddy account
      B. Hover over DOMAINS > Under Management, Click on Domain Management
      C. If you have multiple domains you will see a list of your domains, if not, you will see your domain by itself. Click on the name of the domain that you want to change name servers for.
      D. You will see several tabs - Click on the tab that says NAME SERVERS > A Dropdown menu will appear with two options > Click on Set Nameservers

      E. A Small Window will appear with the title Set Nameservers - Click on I have specific Nameservers for my domains. Then you will enter your nameservers in the fields below...

So where do you get these? SIMPLE when you purchase service with hostgator, they will send you an email with two of the name servers. You are to use these in the fields at Godaddy.
      NAMESERVERS TYPICALLY LOOK LIKE THIS:

      NameServer 1
      NS2453.HOSTGATOR.COM
      NameServer 2
      NS2454.HOSTGATOR.COM

      These are mine...

You only need those two - Once you set these you are good to go at Hostgator and you never have to come back to godaddy again, as long as you dont want to point anymore of your domains. NOTE: You have to do this for each one of your domains separately

      F. Click Ok - Your Servers have been pointed correctly and will take a while to Propagate Across the Internet.

The Next steps are done all at HostGator

      Step 2

If you added your domain at hostgator when signing up you need not do anything else. But if you have another domain you want wordpress on then you need to add an addon domain name. This is easy to do. You go to your hostgator CPANEL by going to the name of your Address/cpanel so EXAMPLE
      HTML Code:
      http://YOURDOMAINNAME.com/cpanel
by doing this, you Hostgator control panel will show up and you can then Add Wordpress onto it. You may need to log into Cpanel witht he Username and Password you were sent by Hostgator.

There is a button at the bottom of CPanel that is a bluish Purple Smiley Face Called Fantastico or Fantastico Delux. Click on it. It will show you a control panel to install any platform script they have available. Obviously you want Wordpress so you would click Wordpress.

Then Enter the details Name of the site/blog, the details such as the username you want to log into and the password. Please note that once you chose a username for this you can not change it ever again, unless you reinstall wordpress.

Once wordpress is installed you can add themes and many different plugins to it to customize the website and make it look how you want it to look.

If you are doing IM Stuff, and need a squeeze page and a sales page I recommend OptimizePress. But this costs money. But you said that you want it for a blog so I recommend you go to WooThemes.com or Themeforest.net for Great themes. Woothemes has some FREE themes you can download that look great and are easy to install. Theme forest themes come really Inexpensive and are great to use because they are more unique and not many people use the themes which means you can get a unique look.

A Professional Looking theme that I use from WooThemes is CANVASS
      Absolutely love it.

Anyways I hope you understood me. I apologize for the lengthy reply, but I wish everytime someone answered me I would get answers like these, not just one Liners. Hope this helps!

      Kindest,

      Alex Guzman

Personally I use Hostgator but I have heard that others like GoDaddy as well. It would depend on your budget and what you prefer as far as cpanel, etc.

If you have money, go for Hostgator. Cheaper but good hosting is also stablehost or Hostamus.
