Would You Use A Paid Link Building Service?

I was wondering if it's safe to do this or if it's trouble with search engines. I've heard about many of them lately and it sounds too good to be true - so is it?

Will someone explain the ups and downs of doing this?

Thanks!

    Hi Donna -
I'm not sure if you mean paying someone (or a service) to do link building for you or paying to get links coming to your site so I'll answer both.

I'd be wary of paying someone else to do link building for you unless you know exactly how they're going about getting those links. Many "link building services" just place your link wherever they can online and often this results in getting links from bad neighborhoods; in other words FFA (free for all) link building sites.

These sites often don't have great credibility and the last thing you want is your site associated with well-known sites that are nothing more than link farms.

On the second note of purchasing links for the sake of increasing your exposure, I'd be wary of these as well. Google especially has begun to crack down on sites known to be selling links. As a matter of fact, they even encourage reporting sites that are known to be selling links.

If you're looking to get some good incoming links to your site, without having to deal with any negative issues, here's some ideas for you:

    • Do a search in Google for one of your main keywords.
    • Next, visit Site Explorer - Yahoo! Site Explorer and see who is linking to your competitors.
    • Visit the sites linking to your competition and attempt to get links from those same places.
    • Find blogs related to your topic and leave honest comments.
    • Find message boards and forums related to your topic and add your site information to your signature; and then don't forget to contribute, help, and then contribute and help some more.
    Hope that helps!

I meant link building software services where you pay a monthly fee. Usually everyone contributes a blog to the network and all get many one way links. Couldn't Google could just join and find out the sites involved and punish them?

      Thanks again!

I would advise against it unless the company tells you EXACTLY how they build links and can provide you with a weekly report. Most of these services do nothing more than outsource their directory submission and social bookmarking for $5 and then charge you $45 per month or whatever.

I totally agree with P2Y. I won't use one, they are a total waste of money. U can easily outsource this out at a fraction of the cost, and have the processes "customised" to your specific needs much better. You want control over the process, with that you get the desired results much better.

Not an easy answer. Paying someone to build links for you or paying a high pr site to give you a one-way link can get you in trouble, but all the pros do it

    Donna,

You run the risk of getting the dreaded "Google Slap" by doing this IMO.

How do you know where your links are going to end up?

I'm sure there are many good link building services out there, but I don't trust anyone with my name or domain names. I like the old saying, if you want something done right... do it yourself.

Not true p2y. Not everyone is outsourcing their job and charge you $45 for social bookmarking. At least I won't and I don't My link building service will not just concentrate on Page Rank which many will just give you page rank on the domain rather the link page itself. There are differences and many people have the misconception. The calculation of Page rank is from the link page PR and not the domain PR. So a high domain PR doesn't mean you will get a high PR in Your page. The link page may get indexed faster and that's it.

I mean with so many Internet marketing strategies these days. Doing *all* things by yourself is nearly impossible. Especially when comes to SEO link building.

First you have to find a relevant sites, then you have to also check if the link are search engine friendly and do not have factors like "nofollow", javascript, or other things that block the spider. This itself is very time consuming. So if you can find someone that you can trust, outsource it.

What you could do is to research the sites you want to get links from, make a list and then task the link builder to get links from your list. This will allay any fears that they will be going to link farms as they will be working from your list. They will be able to go on to the sites and leave comments etc to get links.
