Any online public libraries that are free or cheap?

Is there a such thing as an online public library filled with real books that you can check out and read online?

I have seen a few, which I don't really remember of. Is there any that are worth it? I want to use a public library for research for my articles, but want to know if it is possible.

Thank you guys and girls.

Many public libraries offer books online to their patrons. If you have a library card (for your local library) you can check out books online and read them on your Kindle or app on your computer. You probably will have to get the library card in person but after that you can check out books online.

Yes, I am aware of this. Is there any alternatives to this?

Normally not. Your local library may have something or be affiliated with a larger library system, however. My local library is part of a consortium of libraries so I can access many different libraries both offline and on. It also gave me access to the Boston Public Libary's online content and their paid databases.

There are a number of places where you can get books for free online that may or may not be useful to you.

Publish & sell ebooks - read free books online

    Wiley Online Library
Free News, Magazines, Newspapers, Journals, Reference Articles and Classic Books - Free Online Library

These sites tend not to have the latest information but sometimes you can find something useful.

Is there any subscriptions of lots of brand new material? Or at least recent?

I'm also looking for "online libraries".

The issue to me really is if they're worth it, even if they wouldn't come cheap.

There's a university and some college libraries near my place; I have yet to check them out. But I doubt they can be of any help. Those university and colleges specialize on courses/topics that are different from the niche I'm working on. And I presume those libraries aren't as good as other established libraries anyway. But I'm definitely going there some time soon.

One more problem for me is that a good bookstore is a couple of hours away from my place.

It would be wonderful to have access to different books, journals, ezines, and other legitimate resources online. (I know there could be access to them. I just don't know where to start.)

If you live in the USA, all public libraries are free to residents and most have amazing resources to card holders. Simply go to your nearest public library, get a card if you don't already have one, and ask the reference librarian there what access you have to research resources online.

The answer varies depending on what state you live in, but in Massachusetts, with a library card you can access a lot of paid research databases because the library subscribes on your behalf.

You also have access to interlibrary loan to books from all over your region and state, as well as free access to digital books and downloadable audiobooks.

This is your tax dollars at work. Take advantage of it.

Sounds to me that you are looking for something like Kindle Unlimited, Oyster, Scribd, or something along these lines. I am sure if you do a search you could find many more.

All of these offer inexpensive subscriptions with new/recent material available.
