Joint Venture Question

What is the etiquette to approach someone to joint venture? Especially if your doing it for the first time. Sorry for posting this in the main forum. It should have gone in the joint venture section. New here. Thanks.

    Hey Peach,

I'll be doing this soon as well.

The way I see it is: If you approach the other party with a good, fair deal for you both, as long as everything is kept civil, there should be no reason to have to abide by specific rules/etiquette.

Remember that like all marketing it's important to have a hook, so don't just blurt your idea out... this is your chance to sell them your idea! I think if someone came to me with an eye-catching hook I'd be more interested in the potential benefits of the offer, then the language they used.

    Just my opinion

    All the best,

    Tim

Contact them via email, tell them that they seem like a good candidate for a JV deal, offer a higher than usual commission rate, show them the sales letter, and offer a review copy of your product. Some will go for it, some won't. Numbers game.

But in truth, starting your own affiliate program is a form of joint venture marketing also. So you should consider this too.

This is not a joint venture. In this example, you're asking someone to be your affiliate.

      There IS a difference.

If you're asking someone to promote your product or service in exchange for a commission, you're asking them to be an affiliate for you.

A joint venture is, well... a JOINT venture: you're co-creating a product and you each take a split of the profits. This can be a simple arrangement like 50/50, but could be adjusted one way or the other if one person is doing more of the work.

Trouble is, in IM, when people talk about joint ventures in IM, too often they're really talking about an affiliate arrangement. I've heard some of the big gurus complain about this. It might seem silly, but it's important to be clear about what you're asking for and then use the correct terminology.

      Michelle

I agree with both of the above. I don't think there are any real rules other than just common sense rules like respect and selling them on your idea. You need to make it appealing to them. Unless you have a really good product it probably would not do any good to approach the big names. Start out small and work up.

    Here's wishing you success!

Also be aware that if your trying to do this outside of IM that you want to talk in a way that they can understand...Dont talk over their head

We know what an affiliate is
We know what a JV is

    but they dont.....

And sometimes you have to make a gut decision on deciding what to tell them and what to leave out.. Dont sound like a car salesman using big words. Be fair to them

And you can be fair to them without explaining everything up front...Just make sure you take care of them...

Then show proof of the outstanding EPC! (earning per click)
its hard work but it works!

*Bottom line get something that CONVERTS!

Thank you everyone. Especially about jv vs. affiliates.
