Money from Youtube videos

I see several ads on the more popular videos; I'm wondering if anyone here has made money from this ad method.

I see some home videos with kids or whatever with approx. 10 million views. If these are monetized, assuming a 1-2% conversion rate, wouldn't that equate to 100,000$ ?

Could someone make that much from just one video?

    I have my youtube channel monetized, I make about $1/day - but I don't have ANYWHERE near as much traffic as the big guys on youtube. I assume they are easily making thousands a day, it would be a completely viable way of earning an income if you can go viral somehow.

    It's a great way to make money, if (and this is a big IF) you go viral, which isn't something to count on IMO.

    Well they encourage that you sign up for adsense and monetize your videos with it. For those who regularly post popular music videos on Youtube... i can imagine that they're probably making a killing. Small niches though... not so much.

    One of my videos gets about 5000 views a month and it makes around $75 a month. Its not a viral video, I have it ranked #1 for multiple keywords. So anyone monetizing a viral video is probably a couple thousand dollars a month.

    It is possible to at least make a passive side income on YouTube. You can just upload several videos and sign up for AdSense with YouTube.

    Videos that go viral can earn considerably large amounts of money, but I know people who make a few hundred dollars a month from an aim-able number of views.

    Unfortunately you can't make something go viral through any act of your own, but you can continue uploading useful, good content to increase the likelihood of your videos going viral.
