Freebie Seekers and Fake Emails GOAWAY!!

Hey - list building is a must we all should know this by now, however, ensuring you get a real email address from your traffic sources is a must. Other than using double confirmed and selling your own products (to build a buyers list).

What are some creative ways you've discovered to ensure your traffic sources are entering their real (check on a daily basis) email address?

And if you could, what are some ways you've used to ensure they confirm that they really want to receive emails from you. (actually getting them to confirm by clicking the link in the confirm email.)

I just uploaded a free product. I wrestled whether to charge a dollar or two fir it to weed out freebie seekers. I ended up going with free. Hope I made the right decision.

It's just a part of the business, you win some and you lose some. Those who enter fake email addresses will never buy from you anyways so I wouldn't worry too much about them.

Just focus on creating that relationship with the 'real' subscribers on your list.

I've had my personal domain name for over 10 years. I've got plenty of proof that giving out an email address to even "trustworthy" parties can lead to spam.

The only ones here that get a real address from me are the ones I PayPal. Everything else gets one of a rotating list of throwaway accounts. That reminds me, time to delete an alias that's getting particularly spammy.

I once dabbled with Mobile PPC, spent a couple of hundred dollars, got almost 400 subscribers in under 20 minutes...and when i looked through the emails, nothing but fake and foreign email addresses! There was no chance i could make any money from that list!

Focus on getting people to WANT to do business with you and optin...not just making them jump through hoops to get a freebie.

The best bet to get real interested subscribers to your offer is by advertising at the WSO section.

  • This is a tough one. As Casey put it, you have to accept it's part of the business and not neccessarily the worse part of the business. People's needs change sometimes they'll bite for your offer and sometimes they won't

It's a bit of a two way street though in my opinion. There are list owners who give great content time after time whose emails you will open. There are some who start great but after a while each email you open only wants to sell you something. Then there are those who from the getgo do nothing but hammer you with sales. Then there are those who you've got no recollection of signing up for but you're getting stuff from day in day out.

I'm not complaining because that's up to me to manage it. My point is when you've got that mix of approaches by list owners you'll get a similar set of approaches from list subscribers.

Its just the nature of the beast. If you're taking care of business in the right way at your end, what those free riders cost you in autoresponder fees will be swallowed up by the hot buyers for your quality offerings.

A couple of things come to mind:
    1) Ask for my primary email
    2) Let me know you'll send the product to my email address
    3) Offer me a valuable email follow up or something that I would WANT to get in the inbox I check every day.

The guys that get my email are mostly membership type of sites/services and I'm actually looking forward to receiving their emails.

So that should give you some ideas.
