Is the water still warm? Membership Sites

Hello everyone,

I haven't posted here in awhile but did visit quite often and even bought some good products and I hate to beat a dead horse but I want to try a membership site. I have a few questions that maybe all of you could help with.

I read quite a few post here on membership sites and know the details about running a good membership and to start with great content plus keeping it updated frequently. It's going to be tough with lots of work and I'm ready!

I bought RAP with the membership addon and I think it's going to be great! It's just going to take me awhile to learn like everything else. But here are some questions I have. I may not get back to you soon since I'm on the road but I will check back. I hope many of you have some great solutions.

I will be offering all sorts of tutorial videos, yes another tutorial site but they say video is where it's at! Anyway, here are some hard questions I need help with.

1.) How do you like offering your videos in a membership site? Flash video or just zip them up for download. I guess bandwidth would be enormous right? and cost?

2.) Should I offer a lifetime membership for the intro videos and then upsell to another level of membership for even more videos? Or is it better to just keep adding more videos every month?

3.) Has anyone had success with offering videos on DVD's inside a membership as an upsell? Maybe using Kunaki?

I know I read in the forum or someplace that offering maybe a trial for a dollar and then raise the price next month. Does that work pretty good or do people grab the videos and run?

Well I better stop asking questions before this gets to long. Hope you can help!

Thanks
Mike A.

    Hey Mike,

You ask a lot of good questions, and i think that it really depends on the type of crowd you get into your site. For example, if you start off at a $1, it is going to be harder to charge higher amounts later on.

There does seem to be a higher perceived value when something is only available on dvd. It is also harder for people to share it as well.

As far as how to share videos on a site, I have found that a surprisingly high number of people don't view many. Bandwidth isn't as high as you may think. If you allow members to download the videos, you are making it pretty easy to share them for free with other people.

      Hey Matt,

Your right that's what I was thinking. I don't want people to think these are cheap videos and I do want to offer good quality videos.

I don't know what you exactly mean by "surprisingly high number of people don't view many".

      Thanks
