Citing content from authority sites

I'm working on this niche site for a pharmaceutical drug.

If I make a citation at the end of the article, Is it OK to copy/paste a list of side effects of the drug from an authority site like rxlist or webmd?

It is best to check the Copyright / TOS for those authority sites you want to quote.

Some will allow you to copy and give credit. Others will not.

The Fair Use Doctrine in Copyright law allows you to quote a sentence or two, but you are always best to get permission before quoting.

      This is wrong.

And it's the perfect illustration of why people should neither ask for nor take legal advice in an internet forum, because someone taking that advice could easily have a nightmare and a disaster on their hands, exactly as some others who believed it have done in the past.

You have 2 alternatives in this case:

    1. You contact the owner of the site you are taking the information from and ask him for permission.

    2. You can copy the content and put a link back to your source...

Can I literally just copy a large side effect list and paste it on my page....as long as I just put a hyperlink to the source right next to it?

Obviously, those sites got the list of side effects somewhere. Why not take your research one step further and find the source? For something like this, the drug company's website would be a good place to start. Or find one of the ads they have to run listing the relevant info. You know, those "see our ad in Fairy Dust Monthly" types, where they make their public disclaimers in tiny type covering 4-8 pages.

Depending on the context, such a citation will present legal issues, including intimation you are recommending this drug. Rather than a citation at all, use a disclaimer that this article is for information only and refer to a medical professional before using. Your articles should in no way indicate you are advising any drug for treatment of medical conditions. The AMA, FDA, FTC and SORA are very sensitive to these things.
