Broadcast or Follow Up Messages?

Hi,

When you initially start building your list, would you load several follow up messages into your autoresponder before getting any subscribers?

Thats what most people seem to suggest, but am I right in thinking you can any track open and click through rates with broadcast messages??

If so, how do you know your initial follow up sequence is any good?

Ed, I believe you can follow the same statistics with follow-up messages as well. I'd suggest setting up the follow-up messages this way you can kind of set them and forget them.

You can easily do this with aweber or getresponse. And yes, you should preload relationship building emails in your autoresponder before even getting your first subscriber.

And you can also track the performance of your autoresponders (open rates, ctr) in the Followup Tab if using getresponse.

yeah you should really have at least a few follow up emails in place

i always have at least 3 emails in place as a follow up with extra bonus tips which compliment the product which they just bought

if somone opts in to my free offer then i still use follow up emails set up over a number of days automatically when they opt in

theni just use broadcasts ir any important updates

You can start getting subscribers with just a few followups and when you get a good subscriber base you can write some more... You can even outsource this, but remember, you should always provide value in your followup messages to build a good relationship with your list.

I think it depends on the niche.

For niches like IM, I think broadcasts are much more common.

For something like weight loss which is evergreen and doesnt change all that much, follow up emails are your best friend.

It's amazingly easy for people to forget they ever even signed up for your list. That's why follow ups can be a great way to prevent that. IMHO you can use follow ups initially to establish expectations with subscribers. Welcome them, give them a good welcome gift and tell them what to expect regarding value and frequency from you. Just a couple of ideas for starters.

Definitely but try and provide quality in your follow up messages. You won't to keep that list you have gained to a high success rate as possible.
