Free Trial vs Cheap Trial

I am going thinking about launching a trial for my site. What i wanted to know was, what is better a free trial or one where it is cheap such as $2.99 for 14 days, then full membership?

My thoughts are, at least with a low fee you are at least getting buyers (with a paypal ac on board) as opposed to just lookers.

I'd be interested in your thoughts.

Jenna.

    Hi Jenna,

    Great question.

The number one thing I would consider when offering a small entrance fee or a no cost trial is that during the trial period, people will realize the true value of your product or services.

How about offering a trial where, let`s say 50 per cent of the trial fee goes to a charitable organisation? That will help you cover some of your initial costs while offering people a way to contribute to a common good.

Let me know what you do.

    Keep up the GREAT work.

    Eirik.

    Hello Jenna

    Good post.

A variation on this is to charge, say, $1 then automatically charge the remainder at the end of the "trial" period. You can do this with PayPal subscriptions.

I've only ever tested the "free trial" method so I can't really say how successful this would be for you.

Whatever model you choose, you need a way to disable your product for those that cancel or don't make the full payment, or be prepared to factor in some inevitable losses.

    Cheers,

    Neil
