How to hide aff. link from the status bar?

I use this feature in Godaddy for the first time and I must admit I don't understand it at all.
I forwarded one of my domains to the CB affiliate link, I enabled masking feature, and on top of everything I even cloaked the affiliate link. Result - the aff. link is hidden in the address bar, but it can still be seen in the status bar.

Am I doing something wrong or there is no way to hide your aff. link using GoDaddy's forward/masking options?

    Hi,

I'm not sure if I understand your setup. I presume you have a domain hosted on godaddy. Then my suggestion is to use an .htaccess file to manage your affiliate links. You'll end up with urls such as /dex_recommends/go/my_aff_link1.php and /dex_recommends/go/my_aff_link2.php which inturn send the user to the right place.

You will find out that such forwarding may not convert as well as doing this - first send the traffic to a review of the product and then to the sales page. You can use the same setup as above to manage that.

    Success,
    Sam

I bought a domain on GoDaddy -- just domain, no hosting. Then I forwarded that domain address via my CBhop address to the vendor's sales page. Before that I cloaked the affiliate link (using my-linker). The point is that I am trying to make an experiment in which I will omit using presell page, doing the preselling in articles. But what's bothering me is that my affiliate link still can be seen in the status bar, not in address bar, despite masking and cloaking.

Changing the status bar text can be done with a little Javascript, but it won't work for any visitors that have Javascript disabled in their browser. Check this link for more info...

      Hyperlink and Status Bar

Instead, I think it's better just to do a simple re-direct.

I believe the information Brandon linked to is outdated and incorrect. Although I wish it were right.

Due to phishing abuse the JavaScript mouseover trick no longer works. Go ahead, try it out and you'll see. You'd need a very old web browser for it to still work.

His final statement is right - use a redirect.

I haven't noticed whether it's enabled or not by default in the latest versions of most browsers. But it DOES still work with the latest version of Firefox, at least. For example, in Firefox, go to Tools > Options > Content. In the Advanced tab next to 'Enable Javascript', you'll find the option to allow Javascript to 'Change status bar text' or not.

But regardless of whether it's enabled or not by default, there's always going to be a certain percentage of users that have it disabled. That's why it's best (IMO) to just use re-directs.
