Default How To Avoid Unnecessary Penalty Fees From Chargebacks

I was checking my credit card statements the other day and came across a payment to PayPal I didn't recognise. There was absolutely nothing in the entry to give a clue about what product or service it related to.

After racking my brains to try and remember what is was for I called the bank for more information. They couldn't help and told me to try PayPal. So after tortuous efforts to get to speak to someone there they were finally able to tell me what the payment related to.

Now I guess a lot of customers in my position would have simply filed a chargeback.

If you don't know what that is, it's where a customer tells their credit card company that they never made the purchase. The CC company get onto your merchant service for a refund and then your merchant service charge you a fee for the chargeback and may put a black mark against your company. So all in all you lose out big time.

So I thought about how I could modify my business systems to try and ensure my customers are always able to identify their purchases from me.

What I did was make sure that they know how their payments to me will appear on their CC statement. I've used every available opportunity - on the download page, on the welcome email, on the autoresponder confirmation page, and in the case of recurring payments throughout my autoresponder sequence.

For one of my products I wasn't completely sure how it would show up on a statement, so I bought it myself to see what appeared on my statement to be sure to get it right.

This really is an easy fix - I've posted a video about it on my blog if you're interested.

Be successful.
