I've had my first ever request for a refund (sadly) for a WSO I did. In WSOPro, I find the transaction, click the refund button and then it takes me to PayPal to do the refund.

In PayPal, it has the full purchase price of the product, but when I clicked to do the refund, it showed PayPal fees are deduced so that the buyer actually gets refunded slightly less than the amount they paid.

Do you need to adjust the amount so that you refund more than they paid so essentially I pay for their PayPal fees or what?

Thanks,

Jon

No, PayPal refunds the full amount to the buyer, then deducts the PayPal fees from your account.

    Are you sure about that?

I believe (nay, I am pretty sure) that the buyer gets full money. The negative sign on the Paypal fees (that you see) represents that the Paypal will refund the fees too.

    Thanks!

Paypal returns the full amount to the buyer and simultaneously refunds the paypal transaction fee back to your account.

It appears as though it's a lesser amount because you're getting your fees returned at the same time.

Just being nitpicky: PayPal doesn't always refund the entire transaction fee. Depending on the exact circumstances (funding source, country of origin, age of transaction), you may only get a partial refund of the transaction fee.

That said, this has only ever happened to me once, and no matter how you slice it your customer always gets 100% of the money back.

        I must suck.

Customer pays me $9.97. PayPal gets $0.29 and I get $9.68.

        Customer refunds and gets $9.97.

$9.68 comes out of my account for customer.

Then I pay PayPal $0.29 automatically.

    Halcyon is spot on!

A refund is the exact reversal of someone making a purchase from you.

When they buy from you, you receive 97.1% and PayPal 2.9% (roughly). When you issue a refund, PP makes it very easy, just click refund and PP will handle it properly.

You return your 97.1% and PP return its 2.9%, so 100% refund to your buyer.

So the transaction if back to square one for all parties.
