Are you sharpening your axe?

There is a story about a two lumberjacks who challenged each other to see who could chop the most wood. The younger lumberjack started with a fury, and jumped to an early lead. The older lumberjack would chop for a bit, and then would sit down for a while before going back to work. As the day wore on, the older lumberjack caught and passed the younger one.

When the younger asked how he did it, the older lumberjack explained "Every time I sat down, I was sharpening my axe." To be successful over time, we need to be like the older lumberjack in this story.

Look always for ways to improve yourself, your knowledge, and your skills.

About a year ago I stopped taking workshops and last week just before Kevin Riley's workshop started I decided to register.

My SmokeScents business was doing great offline, but it has failed miserably online. I've tried everything I knew and still no results. After thinking about it for about 17 seconds, I decided I needed to sharpen my axe.

It's been challenging but a growing experience.

If you haven't sharpened your axe in a while think about where you want to be next month.

This is true, but I think the problem many of us have is that we spend all of our time sharpening our axe, and no time chopping.
Sometimes you just need to start hacking away at the tree. Once you've had some experience, then sharpen your axe - once you know how to use it.
Wow... I sure stretched that analogy.
