Cover image dimensions for embedding into .doc

I wonder if anyone can offer me a little assistance with choosing the best image size for the (flat) cover image that I plan to embed in the beginning of my .doc master document for an upcoming ebook.

I know I could figure it out through trial and error, but I hope to avoid an hour or two of those trials by getting some help here.

I've used OpenOffice to create the .doc. I have a whole page devoted to the cover image, but I'm not going to do the 3D rendered cover thing in this case as I don't really see the point of having that type within the ebook itself (even though most people do choose to go that way, I see the 3D type images as more of a sales tool for web pages etc., and since the cover image people will see inside the ebook will be seen after they have already purchased it, I personally think the flat version is more appropriate).

I've never embedded an image into a .doc before, so I can see myself mucking around with margin size and all that. The objective is to get it to fill the page in a proper way... as big as possible without looking strange, I guess.

So basically I'm about to save my cover image version for this purpose as a .png, and just want to know what would be the proper size to have it popped right into the .doc and fill the page up nicely.

Thanks in advance for any help.

cheers,
A.C.
