Need World Map that highlights

I've been doing search engines searches for this, but I guess I'm not using the right search terms as I have yet to find a source code.

I have a client that needs to have a world map ... or in his case, just North America, Latin America, and Europe.

When we can highlight (different color shading) those countries that this company operates in (have regional offices in). Would be great if we can further customize to somehow designate which companies are where. Example, put a "1" in Mexico and "2" in Portugal ... and then list those companies, in more detail, below the map.

Since I have no experience in Flash or high end graphics software, I have no clue how to create one myself.

Flash is one way - though I really hate flash.

You can also use an image map.

Look for the following phrases:

"dynamic html" "image map" rollover

If you want help with basic code or complete project I can do it.

Actually, this doesn't need to be a rollover/mouseover thing. Static.

If I was somehow able to find just a clean black/white of the maps ... I should be able to color in the appropriate countries in Photoshop, right?

Sorry, thinking out-loud I guess .... Need to find a clean, sharp, professional black/white world map or N. America, Latin American, and Europe separately.
