0 to $4500 per month in 60 days

I put together a membership site in 60 days and we now have over 100 paying members at $37 per month.. It is in the Martial Arts niche and is direct to consumer..

I am really happy to see these results, wondering if anyone had any tips on the best way to keep people from bailing after the first few months..

- Thanks,

Shaun

Keep your site up-to-date, constantly supply it with fresh high quality content and build great relationships with everyone. You can expect everyone to stay on but most of them should if you take care of them properly. Great job by the way!

Another thing you could do is have your core stuff available when they signup, and then take some of the other material you already have in there and just make it drip fed each week so that customers realize new stuff is always being released.

I figured that out with my own membership sites... don't offer everything upfront. Give them enough stuff that it's still valuable to them, then blow their mind with the drip fed stuff that lasts as long as you want it to.

do you think i can do this with a muscle building website? When i say this i mean...start a membership site and have the content come thru a drip feed where there is always something updating on the site every so often? I studied martial arts for 17 years so i'm curious to know how u are getting ppl to pay $37/mo lol...but i also was once a skinny guy who is pretty muscular right now and i'd like to personally sell this program...either thru a membership site of give it for free and just have build the site up..get alot of traffic and make money other ways...what are your thoughts?

Wow, your growth is pretty impressive. Well done!

Your first step should be to make sure your existing clients are happy and getting their moneys worth.

If that is the case, you should try forum marketing and social media marketing. That would be a great way to get people interested in your niche onto your site.

Once they are there, give them a little preview of what benefits there are of being a member, and if there are enough positive testimonials about your site, you should be able to get more members.

That's great work Shaun. Congrats. Have you thought about polling or surveying your members to ask them want they want?

If people bail out, why not send them a special "welcome back" offer if they return? Half price for two months or something.

    • If they consistently drop out at, say, the 5th month, you might consider making it a fixed-term membership. In that case, they would be signing up for a 6 - 8 month membership, and after that they get a 'lifetime' free membership from there on out. The reason is...that if they have a 'finite' term, when they get to that evil 5th month, they will be less likely to drop out, knowing that they're 'almost' to the end of payments, and almost to the lifetime membership (and you should offer a reward for reaching the 'end' of the paid membership in addition to the lifetime free). The benefits to you are that you will have more people sticking with you (paid) for more months, and then, when they reach the 'free' lifetime membership, you still have them on your list where you'll be marketing to them and making money forever. You will have extended the life of your paid membership, and you will not have 'lost' very many due to dropping out of your pipeline. Remember, it's better to have a 'free' member in your membership site than to have him/her disappear altogether. And it will energize your forum, if you have one in your membership site (more members, and more happy members).

How about getting qualified or known martial arts professionals featured in every month of your site? I guess that should give them something to look forward to. But at $37 per month, members may expect more value or materials out of your site?

Yeah asking members directly what they values the most in your niche and provide it is one of the best ways. I also think that you may want to have guest speakers in the niche of your choice and send members free report of that let's say every 2 months. Make it so valuable that people will stay just to receive it.

I would advise you to run survey to get their feedback, create a forum as well where they could interact with each other. Run contest and reward the best participant to encourage others. Ask them to share result of their success and give them a preview on what coming next..

Congrats on your success so far.
To keep people on your membership site give them some incentives to stay. Provide offers and changing updates every month. Perhaps run a monthly course with new tips and tricks only revealed each month.
Competitions are also a great way to keep members.
Perhaps also adding in a forum could help people interact with each other and keep them active
    Hope this helps

Easy. Ask your membership what they want and deliver it to them.

Wow - what a great story. I am getting ready to launch my own membership site and I hope I have the same level of success! I would like to ask if followed any specific program or used any particular software for accepting payments? I am planning on using paypal and am trying to figure out how the best way to process credit card payments.

I used to manage a membership site for someone and what they used to do, besides provide valuable content is have contests and give aways towards the end of the month and announce winners the following month. Only members who kept their memberships would be eligable to participate. This did seem to work and stopped a lot of people cancelling their membership. Some people even use to email us and ask us to cancel their cancellation request.
Ofcourse quality and value beat any gimmiks.

Thinking as a martial artist what would make me keep paying...

    - Diverse articles across different styles from experts
    - Technique workshops (youtube vids perhaps)
    - A community (forum/chat) to keep me coming back
    - For instructors, school listing, seminar postings etc
    - My space to upload vids, photos boast about my 1000 black belts etc
    - MMA news/updates etc

For $37 you are going to expect something you can't find anywhere else.

Obviously use your income to market the site at local/state cage fight/tornies etc ... all depends on what your niche actually is
