Article writting is writting articles for your or someone elses site. This can be done on your own but is great to have outsourced. Basically, you can pay somebody to write all the content to your site for you.
Sorry, I can't view that link right now I'm in class.

Article writing is writing articles for the purpose of adding content and providing content.

Adding content is making your site more authoritative in terms of the quality of articles it has. This will help in WHITE HAT SEO.

Providing content is by distributing content to other sites in the hopes of getting links to your site. By using the correct keywords, you enable your site to rank better in the search engines. These tactics can be GRAY HAT or BLACK HAT.

this basically sums article writing.. you can submit articles to ezinearticles, goarticles and other article directories for good backlinks and also traffic. you can put links to your site at the resource box of the submitted articles.

You can ... but I very strongly recommend that you don't, because that isn't what article directories are for at all.

(And they have no "good backlinks" for you anyway: only non-context-relevant PR-0 backlinks).

If you try to misuse directories by submitting articles to them for their own backlinks and/or their own traffic, you may well end up just like the hundreds of members here who've started off the hundreds of threads over the last year or two with titles like "Article Marketing Is Dead" and "Article Marketing Doesn't Work Any More": that's what happens when you try to use article directories for something completely different from the purpose for which they so productively and beneficially exist.

Article writing is writing high quality content for your site or someone else's site. Most people outsource this or you can write the articles yourself if you are able to. I write some of my own articles and I outsource some of them.

how much does it tend to be for someone to write content if i outsourced for my site and i have a new site being created?

It depends on what type of article and who is the provider. You can find freelancers who can easily sell you $3-5 an article of 400-500 words.

The problem with the word "articles" is that it's used to cover so many levels of content. Yes, you can get a 500 word article for $3. And that article might even make sense. But it's not going to be in the same league as a 500 word article that costs $25. Writers who get paid well for their work tend to spend more time on research, writing, revision, proofreading, etc.

We really need different names for the different types of "articles."

                  Fixed that for you.

We do have terms for different kinds of articles, just like we have terms for different kinds of things. We just don't generally use them.

Instead of saying "I wrote an article that I posted on my blog," it is entirely sensible to say "I wrote a blog post."

Instead of "write ten articles to get indexed on Google for keyword traffic," it is entirely sensible to say "write ten keyword articles."

But people are generally lazy and just say "I wrote an article" or "write ten articles."

Which, when you translate them to "I wrote a thing" and "write ten things," are pretty obviously stupid and meaningless.

You can, but if you are serious about your business, you don't want to. There are article writers who will provide something for as little as 50 cents. However, these are generally junk which doesn't get conversions.

If you are trying to keep your readers interested and on your site, you need articles which are more than just grammatically correct link fodder. You need articles which actually have real "meat" to them and which will have your readers nodding along as you make your point.

I find it remarkable that people still don't get this. I keep telling people to look at major authority sites and then compare those with a cheap MFA site. Even if the grammar and spelling is correct (a big if when dealing with these cheap link fodder type articles), they tend to be remarkably dull and are not the sort of thing which is likely to keep customers on your site or get them to click a link and make a purchase.

Unfortunately, people keep asking for this crap and they keep getting disappointed when it doesn't convert for them and then they show up on the Warriors for Hire section demanding "high quality" articles but offering to pay only for the cheap junk that they want to get away from.

Yes, I agree that most do try it and then run off and say that article marketing is dead. However, I've tried and maintained the other path from where you are going Alexa and I seem to say the opposite from most of the screamers.

You use article marketing in its purest form in terms of distributing the best content out there and leading people to where you want to lead them but I use article marketing as a way of solely creating backlinks (although I dish out press releases/awesome articles here and there which goes viral).

In my case and even up to now despite going through thousands of Panda updates, I can still say that article marketing (blackhat style) is alive. People ran away from it and that means less competition for me. We are from different paths and both is working out for us.

Simply put - article writing means writing articles of standardized lengths on any particular topic. There's demand for quality article writers in the internet marketing world, primarily due to the importance placed by google on quality content. And yes - it could imply writing for free lance purposes, for your website or for somebody else's as well.

It is a great mystery. They say that in olden times the term was composed from two words, "article" and "writing." What do these things mean? Nobody knows.

Hi. I came here looking to find out what article writing actually is, but I am stil confused. I understand the principles now but wha tI dont understand is where? On my own web page? On an external blog and link it to my webpage (like wordpress, tumblr or whatever) and why do i need to do it? I am an emergency plumber. People dont want to read articles. They want to see what I do and a telephone number. So you would write these just to manipulate the search results? I was gettin a lot of business from my EMD that is now dead. 1000 pages and a 2 year old domain gone in the latest update so I need to look at another avenue.

      Certainly.

Noooo ... these days, in particular, that's a terrible way to try to manipulate the search results. Very small rewards from mass article submission, without professional syndication to relevant sites, and big risks.

Article marketing isn't primarily "an SEO method". (It's true that it can have sginficant SEO-benefits on the side, but this is by no means "what it's about").

I completely see SEO being valuable to you, especially in your local area with local search keywords, but find it very difficult to imagine that article marketing is going to be the appropriate way forward for you. It could help your rankings, I dare say, if you can somehow get some quality, relevant backlinks out of it (not easy at all?!), but it surely can't be your best approach?

Why was that, George? You mean the Penguin update has hammered your site? That's not so easy to understand?

(What were/are you doing with 1,000 pages, as a local plumber? This also isn't easy to understand!).

I am a local plumber but we subcontract the work nationally so have a lot of content on the web. We advertise as "plumber in XXXX area" and it was working great. We were getting around 400 unique hits per day which converted in a lot of work. Since saturday we have had 3 hits and unless we find a way out, our business supporting 25 people will fall. It's since the EMD update rolled out 2 days ago that this happened.

I see ... thanks - sorry, misunderstood you slightly, there.

I see "reading the SEO forum here" in your future, I think. I don't know the answer for you, but I'm certainly not convinced that it's "article marketing".

This is the perfect example why people should stay away from Google. I won't touch it with a ten-foot pole. Now 25 people are in danger of losing their jobs. I know, they'll probably find somewhere else to work, I mean, it's not like there aren't any job opportunities, but that just totally sucks. And the worst part is that you can't do anything about it - if G Master changes his plans, you cannot raise your hand and say "I disagree". (Well, you can, theoretically, not that it would make much of a difference.)

I'm telling you, the game is rigged...

Article writing is the process of writing an article, and uploading it online. You can upload it to an article directory, to your blog, to your website... or even create articles for others and become a freelance writer.

A blog is the easiest way to add all kinds of content to your site, including articles.

The only reason you should consider regarding why to add articles to your site is to provide information of interest to your audience.

Adding original, unique, useful information to your site on a regular basis is a very, very good idea, whether it be articles, infographics, videos, photography, podcasts, abstracts, or just old-fashioned blogging.

Always, always, always...think about your audience first. What would they find interesting and useful? Once you have answers to that question, create the appropriate content to provide it.

      Indeed. It wouldn't.

Wordpress.com is the free hosting place for a limited range of Wordpress blogs, which allows no monetization and isn't suitable for marketers of any kind.

Wordpress.org is the source of the software for self-hosted Wordpress blogs.

In this forum, 99%+ of the time that you see "Wordpress" mentioned, the reference is to a self-hosted Wordpress blog, and nothing to do with Wordpress.com at all.

Content helps to flesh out a website, and you can think of each article as casting new 'feelers' out there to add new opportunities to get found, to get linked to, and to reach your target market.
