A 2011 MerchantCircle (the largest social network for local business owners) survey of over 8,000 local business owners in the US found email marketing cited by 35.8% as a Top 3 most effective marketing or advertising method. Only social network profiles and search engine marketing scored higher (reference).

Email marketing:
  • Allows targeting
  • Is data driven
  • Drives direct sales
  • Builds relationships, loyalty and trust
  • Supports sales through other channels
Email promotions and offers generate immediate action: sales, downloads, inquiries, registrations, etc. Informative email newsletters and other emails send people to offline stores and events, prepare the way for catalogues, build awareness, contribute to branding, strengthen relationships, encourage trust and cement loyalty.

In simple words, Email Marketing is a good way of going about your marketing business.

      I don´t think that´s a fair way to put it.
      You might have a list with 500k subscribers or a milion, but if you fail to keep your custumers interested you will soon notice people signing off that list.

      I would say more like: The money is in the list if you can handle the list.

    But also build a solid relationship with your subscribers. Do not shoot them offer after offer without providing solid content that can help them.

    Email marketing is old fashioned and doesn't sound that sexy or cool, but yes it does work very well and will continue to do so for a long long time.

      Hi Anna,

      By sources for building your list, FaceBook and Twitter are good ones. However I have to say to have a responsive list, you have to give the targeted subscribers at least an incentive to sign up. Many marketers use free ebooks as an incentive, but you can go wider by being a little bit creative.

    I'm agreed with these all terms and benefits of Email marketing. But on the point of view its demerits, if this technique doesn't doing properly than its may be called as a spamming. So try to aware about its all merits and demerits.

    Yes I agree too that Email marketing the way to go. It is a good way to maket products as you know that the list of people you are emailing are those that actually want to know more about you product. Your list of people are targeted. Thus it is easier to convert into sales.
