This article is about 5 pages long but there's a PDF version of it attached at the end of the article that you can download (you just need adobe installed on your computer to download and open the file) and read at your spare time if you want. Whether you read it now or later doesn't matter. What matters is that you do read it especially if you wish to make money blogging.

This article is in two parts. First...

How Blogging Gurus Are Leading You to your Blogging Doom

In one sentence:

They do this by misguiding beginning bloggers that they have to blog for fun first before ever thinking of making money from their blogs.

This is a wrong mindset to promote and it's has limited many beginners and continue to limit them from actually preparing for their blog the way they should prepare for a blog that they intend to use to make a good income.

Some bloggers who are now successful with their blogs actually started blogging for fun. They didn't initially plan to make money from blogging. Now because that was how they started and became successful they are teaching others to first blog for fun before ever thinking of making money from it.

That blogging this way will ensure that they're not impatient to make money from the blog instead they focus on writing content.

"I started my blog recently with the goal of making money, but quickly realized that this mindset simply won't work...

I now realize that you have to blog for fun first and foremost. However, I want to be able to blog full time which means my blog needs to make money...

I was just wondering how you all have balanced these two objectives when creating and managing your blogs..."

The question above was asked in a blogging forum.

How to Really Make Money Blogging and Have Fun Doing It!

And the point here is:

I was just wondering how you all have balanced these two objectives when creating and managing your blogs.

And the truth is what you need to really make money blogging is balancing the two objectives - having fun and making money.

You don't have to sacrifice one for the other and when you do it's going to really be hard to make any decent income from your blog. And I am not talking about the few bloggers who got lucky. I am talking about how to blog so that many can make money blogging.

The idea behind the mindset of first blogging for fun before thinking of making money is right and wrong. I'll first explain why it is right and then why it is wrong.

Blog for fun first think of money later is right because:

You focus on satisfying your audience. You pour your heart into writing to add value, to interest and engage; and to build a community of like minds around your blog.

This is great and it's what a content based site must do in other to be able to create likeness, build trust and create an open to buy mind in the reader of the blog.

Blog for fun first think of money later is misleading because:
Bloggers fail to plan their blogs as a business. Most often they just set up a blog about any topic and start writing about anything and everything.

Yes, you can blog about any topic, that's the fun of publishing online! But when you intend to make any real money blogging or create a full-time income, then your choice of topic to blog about is limited. And the way you present your content and organize your blog needs to meet a need.

Your topic is limited because to make money blogging, you must first consider some important questions about your topic.

Is it a topic that people will be willing to spend money on to get really valuable information?

Are the people looking for information on this topic every month enough to make you any decent income?

Is there too much competition for the topic? (that is are there too many people publishing about same topic already)

These are questions that will likely cut down on the topics you can blog about.

And about how you present your content, your content should have a long time span. Not information you publish today and it becomes outdated in only a few days.

Each of your post should solve a problem or meet a need. And your site should be easy to navigate.

All these are things you must consider. Plans you must make before-hand if you will make money blogging.

And bloggers who tell beginners to go blog for fun before thinking of making money don't bother to explain all this. And the beginner just goes off with the idea of blogging for fun.

Only to realize later when it comes to monetizing that by not thinking of all these areas before-hand he or she has greatly limited the income value of the site.

Continuing on how to really make money blogging...

Now after taking all the things I mentioned above into consideration and plan for them, you now set up your blog and then relax to blog to add value, engage, build a community and get feedbacks.

You put all your time into achieving all this without trying to make money immediately. This is where the word blog for fun applies.

You've already set up your blog in the way that you know when you're ready to make money you can maximize your blog income. Now you settle down to enjoy the fun of writing to add real value to people's lives and build a relationship with them. You give willingly this time without asking anything in return.

You put all your time into giving your visitors what they want and making sure they are satisfied.

You put all your focus into writing to solve a real problem, getting visitors to your blog to read your content and converting as many of these visitors into regular blog readers.

You do this because you have the desire to provide real help to people and plus you know achieving this will translate into good money for you in the long run.

And you would have made sure before setting up your blog that your blog topic can be monetized in at least 3 strong ways.

So when it comes time to monetize your blog, you simply add them one after the other and you'll be sure to make decent income monthly.

This is how you blog for money and fun. And most of the successful bloggers who keep telling you to blog for fun first before thinking of money never did this and they don't tell you to either; which is the major reason why bloggers are struggling too hard to make money.

The first successful bloggers made it even without planning to because those bloggers started early when the Internet wasn't so crowded and competitive.

Even at that I can assure you that if they had started with the intention to make money from blogging and had a plan as to how they can do that best, they would have started making money much early than they did. And they would probably be making more money than they do.

You see, any venture you hope to make money from is a business and the only way you can quickly achieve success is to treat it as such - A business. You don't first start by testing the water or playing before you get to real business.

Moreover why first set out to blog for fun when you can do both effectively?

Except you were made to work in the family company business, a business you have no interest in else when you venture into a business, it's expected that it's in an area that you have some level of interest in or how do you expect to excel in it?

So if it's something that interests you why won't you have fun when you're building the business?

Blogging for business in itself is fun. You'll be writing, helping people through your content with one problem or the other.

If you take your time to offer great content that really helps them solve a problem, you'll have a lot of them leaving thank you comments and telling others about you and your blog. And consistent readers and commenters eventually start to become like a friend. Now wouldn't that in itself make you feel good?

So why set out to blog for fun when the art is already fun? Blogging for money doesn't make you offer less value. On the contrary it makes you more concerned about the type of value you offer.

To make money from your readers you must offer extra value not less value. So you force yourself to offer exceptional content to get more readers to your blog. To brand you in your niche so you can make good money when you are ready to add monetization models to your blog.

So the mentality of first blogging for fun has no real benefit to the blogger except it limits the blogger greatly eventually. And this kind of limitation has made many bloggers get frustrated of blogging. Since they've been blogging for a long time and putting so much effort but still can't make money.

Many bloggers have either given up blogging entirely or wasted too much time blogging before making a decent income because of promoted mindset like this.

To correct misconceptions like this is what made me start a website on blogging even as competitive as the topic itself is.

And if you're yet to start a blog or yet to make money from your blog then start a blog or for those already started a blog and yet to make money start another blog working with this line of thought and you'll see you'll achieve success more quicker which is make money from your blog and in a shorter time too.

As long as you write on a topic you really have interest in, business is already fun! That's the balance there.

Chose a topic you have real interest in, and then plan your blog the way you'll plan any business you want to go into. And then you would be blogging to make money but also having fun. Not one or the other.

They work together if you follow the first rule of infopreneurship, which is to write about something you are passionate about and love. And business will be fun.
