What is the best way to find a profitable Niche

I'm new to the forum and while fairly familiar with online marketing from a high level I'm having trouble finding a niche that will be profitable, yet not overly competitive. Any suggestions on solutions for niche research other then Google's keyword tool? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Any niche can be as profitable as you like. It is all about how you market it and how you monetize it.

My advise is to pick a niche you know and love very much. This will be your best bet.

Totally agree with this. Your niche is small in comparison to what you find in your heart. If you're doing what you love and following your heart, you'll find much more success than if you picked a more winnable niche you don't enjoy working on.

first of all i do not think being in a niche that you like will help. Might make it more enjoyable, but first things first.....gotta SELL what people want to BUY.

Tis all about supply and demand. That is what you must first work out.

What made all the money back in THE GREAT depression, while businesses were going broke. Cigerettes and alcohol ... everyone was depressed and needed releif and they got it through this, so its all about supply and demand. People that sold these products to the general public made a killing.

      Just food for thought.

    Ryan,

There is no "best" way to find a profitable niche. However, finding a profitable niche is simple. Simply find a market that has:

    1. Advertising dollars.

    2. Competition.

And by it's very definition it is profitable. My experience has taught me that finding a niche is EASY. Where most people get stuck is how to monetize that niche.

People are going to advise you to go to Amazon, Clickbank, or CPA networks to get ideas. And that is solid advice.

Ok, I'm going to give you my #1 profitable online niche right now in a PUBLIC forum. Ready?

It's in the dating niche. And I'm not afraid to share it. Why? Because no one has a clue on how I monetize it, nor do they know which distribution channels I'm using to suck profits out of it.

There are niches all around you. Profitable ones. Now once you find one, it's up to you to do the research to find out HOW people are making money in it. Do a keyword search on this forum under the advanced search function and type in "niches"....you're going to find hundreds of ideas on how to get niche ideas.

Think hobbies- people spend money on their hobbies beyond all sense of proportion. When I think of the money I've spent on golf.....

Also business opportunities, make money, investments- but those are highly competitive.

Most niches have a lot of potential to be profitable if marketed properly. I see so many people going into particular niches because they are notorious for being profitable, but they end up failing, because they have no real marketing or business plan.

Personally, I think Google Keyword tool is sufficient in determining whether a niche is worth getting into. You can really choose any niche in the world, but before you go ahead with it, make a list of possible monetizing techniques that you could adopt, and compare it with the results of your keyword analysis for it to make sense.

Nothing that is profitable has a low level of competition, I can assure you that. You can't hide from competition in the world of internet marketing. If you manage to somehow get into a non competitive field, it's only a matter of seconds before there are people right next to you again.

I use things like ebay pulse, website directories and PLR for niche ideas then do the keyword research on them to find out if they have any money being spent in them (PPC), traffic and what the competition is.

There are loads of automated tools for doing this now a days i use Keyword Blaze in conjunction with Google Ad-words, Market Samurai (although has been pretty broken in the last few months) and SEO power-suite.

However i agree with dadamson, try and choose something you love as its far easier to put the hours in with something you actually care about than something you find boring and mediocre.

    • Start by using a keyword research tool such as Google Adwords. Determine the search volume and competition for your keywords. Browse magazines and search for profitable products on eBay, Amazon, etc. Each magazine is a niche market. Determine whether you want to create an authority site or a niche site, and then choose your targeted keywords accordingly. Look for keywords with average traffic and low competition. Proper keyword research is the key to finding a profitable niche.

According to me the most profitable niche is one which targets extremely desperate buyers. Competition won't matter as long as you target a niche where buyers are dying to figure out a solution to their problem.

I totally agree with Ryan here. People always say "pick something you like, you're interested in". That's fine but typically it's a harder sell than picking something where people are much more motivated to fnd a solution quickly.

Example: Person a) Has genital warts, Person b) Somebody who wants to buy a new TV....which person do you think is going to be on the Net until midnight trying to find a solution!!????

There are 3 things that most people want in life and they will spend a lot of money to get what they want.

They are anything that make people:

    1) Healthy (Weight loss, natural health remedies, performance enhancement etc)
    2) Wealthy ( Make money online, forex, investment, share trading, retirement planing etc)
    3) Happy (Relationship, self improvement, beauty products, pets, golf etc)

Profitable and hungry niches are right in front of you wherever you look.

    Good luck!

    Hi Ryan!

I agree that finding niches can be simple because they are everywhere but taking the necessary steps to make them profitable differentiates the beginners and those who did them months or years ago.

There are indeed riches in niches. But you've got to have something for those hungry of solutions. You have to have your own or somebody else's products to solve those problems for them. That's where profit begins.

Okay. I must admit that I haven't broken the thousand dollar profit yet as just like many others, I haven't taken a definitive action the past few months. But that doesn't mean I don't have clues.

May I know what's your passion Ryan? That is important! Anyway, I would do this (example: dog training)

    1. External Keyword Tool - Type in dog training (use exact match). The GMS is 60500. That's a great number. Clicking dog training for Google Search though would give you 46M results. That's a huge number even. Putting in quotation marks to your keyword would still give you 26M results. That means this is a huge market. Go back to your keyword ideas and look for those figures with at least 2-3T results (ex. dog training videos). Putting in quotation marks to it again would give you half a million searches. That's still a big number, but much smaller than dog training alone. Repeat the process tlll you're contented with the numbers and retaining the passion of the niche.

    2. Ebay Pulse - Go to pulse.ebay.com and look for the most popular items in any category of your choice. Again, it should relate to what you love. Ebay though is dealing more of tangible items. So if you have that passion for gadgets (ipod, watches, weather meters), then by all means go for it.

    3. Amazon - Just play around with your thoughts and look at the numbers. Dog training will give you 28T results but dog training tips will give you 583 results. That only means there is a market in that niche. And if you can create products (ebooks or videos) to relay that information and subsequently solve somebody's problems, then that's a win-win.

There could be a hundred ways to find a niche, but then again, ask yourself will you stick to it? If you'll create a blog, will you update your articles every few days or weeks? Can you create a unique video or ebook that will boost interest of your buyers? Those are also critical considerations that you have to think about.

Just start doing with something Ryan. And keep that focus for some time... I could now see those big smiles in your first paycheck. : )

    Thanks!

You couldn't be more wrong. IM isn't a niche, what you probably meant was the MMO (Make Money Online) market. Secondly, it's not the most profitable, not by a long shot.

There's some great advice in this thread and I think I'll add my 2 cents worth too

Google products - good place to see what products are popular
43 Things - have a look at people's goals listed here and get some kw/niche ideas
      Amazon Bestsellers,
      Amazon Movers and Shakers,
      Amazon Hot Releases
Magazines.com - If there's a magazine for a niche then people are spending money in that niche.. (also, an extra tip - when you've chosen a niche, look at a magazine in that niche and check out the cover.. read the headlines on the cover and use them to get ideas for articles or content for your site)
And lastly, Clickbank - Browse the categories and check out what products are popular.. high gravity is a good clue that the product is selling well (but it could also mean that a lot of affiliates are promoting it..)

After you've got some keyword and niche ideas then go over to Google Keyword Tool and see how many searches you get for each kw...
Also go to google.com and do a search on your chosen kw to see how much competition there is and if there are any paid search results appearing on the top and sides. If there is then that niche/product is in demand and people are paying for their ads to appear there. Competition means the niche is profitable.

      Hope that helps.

      All the best,

      Jas

Don't worry about the competition. This just means that that particular niche has "buying" customers. There's so many different ways to skin the cat. It's better to choose a niche that you like as you're going to have to do "work" and it's not going to be fun if you hate what you're doing or don't find it remotely interesting.

There are millions of niches you can make money in, you have to look for the ones that have good search volume, competition (essential), ad spends, and most importantly a group of hungry buyers!

I agree - there is no one best way. Go where the money is and follow your heart if this is possible!

And remember to focus on what people WANT and not what they need. We don't buy what we need, we buy what we want. I call this the "chocolate vegetables" theory...

Chocolate = we want it but it's not nutritious
Veg = we don't want it, but our body needs it

So sell choc-covered veg - something that people WANT and then when they bite into it, it gives them what they NEED.

One method I used to use was via autoblogs. I setup (or bought) autoblogs on a range of diffrent subjects. I had the campaigns include amazon, articles, yahoo answers etc.

I use Google Analytics and watched the search traffic carefully to see what search terms the sites ranked for. I knew that if an autoblog could rank for a term/niche then a 'proper' website would have no problem.

All niches can work. You are asking the wrong question. The correct question is: do I have something worthwhile to offer, regardless of the niche? If you do, then it's just a question of figuring out how to reach the niche that product is in.

Don't look for niches. Look for something of value to offer that people want.

    Passion, profits and people.

Find something you enjoy, one where profits are already demonstrated (others are doing and ideally there are other affiliate programs) and with lots of people who meet online to sell your product or service to.

I once read a really good example of a guy who was a carpenter by trade and passionate about bird watching. He combined his expertise with his passion and created a guide on how to build bird houses. I believe it started as an eBook with plans and built up to video tutorials.

Any niche with a considerable amount of people in it is profitable. However, you must be passionate about it so that you can draw the people to you. As long as there are products being sold in the niche, it means that people are buying. So profitability is not really a problem. The problem is how you can attract the market so that they will buy from you.

Finding profitable niches is not difficult when you stop to consider that most people buy to solve a problem. Find a niche where there are problems to be solved and then offer the solution to the problem. Don't focus on the niche; but ask yourself what the problems are.

    Finding a niche for WHAT!

If you want to find demand around a physical product where you will sell as an affiliate (Ex Amazon affiliates) then look to 1) What is already selling and 2) Hot new products that are in demand. For example, we recently sold a camping site that sold physical items extremely well, same thing for a yoga mat site - both were taken directly from researching what was selling and then dominating the searches around those items.

On the other hand if you want to find a niche for information products (ebooks, courses, membership sites, etc...) then you want to look for desparation usually quite evident around either 1) Getting rid of something painful (medical conditions, fat, shyness, etc..) or striving toward something (new business, better financial investing results, sweeter golf swing, better relationships, etc...)

Two very different ways to track down a niche based entirely on your desired way of monetization.

through trial and error i think. just do some research on the keywords using google and google adwords. you don't necessarily need to think about the CPC because you can use other monetizing methods like CPA, etc. I would just focus on one website - even if you are not confident in it - just work on it a bit day by day and soon you will start to see some traffic and money.

    Hey Ryan!

One of the best ways to find a great and profitable niche is to search on

    Flippa --> https://flippa.com/

Here people put up websites for sale and they pretty much give you some nice information on how profitable the website is. Of course there are people there who may not be telling the truth but this is when you must do your due diligence and be able to analyze whether this site is truthful or not regarding earnings.

The more important thing to focus on though is their rankings and traffic. This you can find easily by looking in Google the keyword or keywords they are targeting and see if they are telling the truth about their ranking.

The awesome thing is that this will give you lots of ideas by simply taking those keywords and putting them in the Google keyword tool to check the search stats and even look further into the niche they are targeting.

This is a great way to get unlimited niche ideas that have more of a chance to be profitable since you clearly see someone profiting within the niche. Keep in mind that people put up sites all the time so you literally can always go and do some research.

Hope that helps and best of luck on your journey!

    -Will

Well, finding a passion can be difficult if you unpopular hobby. While trying to solve people's problem when you just a beginner can be quite difficult. I don't mean to be a negative person, my suggestion is religious niche.
