Hi Guys

I run a brick and mortar business distributing industrial products.

My only form of online marketing is through adwords and I'm paying through the nose competing with the big boys.

I noticed that I get 1 inquiry in about 50 clicks through adwords. Most of the visitors who click the ads are knowledgeable about the products, if not, they wouldn't even click the ads.

So I was thinking why waste the 49 clicks, maybe I should insert a "Be our partner" or "Be our affiliate" link in the website and offer them the opportunity to make extra money. I will pay them recurring commissions for every deal I secure through their recommendation.

Do you think this is workable?

What would serious buyers think if they see this link on my site?

Thank you in advance.

Just to make sure I understand what you are asking, your wanting to set up an affiliate program? If this is true, then yes, I think it would be a wonderful idea.

However, make sure you have some things in place first...

    1. You are offering a good commission, remember the affiliate is spending their time and money promoting your products. So make it worth their time and investments.

    2. Make it as easy for them to promote your products, basically make it work free and stress free to promote your products.

    3. Use a good affiliate management system, I would recommend Clickbank.com, they can handle both digital and physical products/services and they handle all of the payments on both ends.

Now, as a total side note and another idea of what to do with the other 49 clicks.

Are you asking for their email addresses and building a list with them?

Because if you are NOT, then this is more important then setting up an affiliate program.

    Hope this helps...

    Mark

      Hi Mark

The 3 points your mentioned are really good, I will also look into building an email list.

      Thank you for your advice.

    Hi,

Mark's suggestions are good. Also, if you choose to continue adwords, 1 in 50 is not bad at all. You can improve (lower) your click through rate by figuring out which keywords are converting better and also making them more specific (so as not to compete directly).

Are you using retargeting? (this tags each visitor to your site and shows them your ads everywhere they go until they contact you or purchase something... etc.) If you're not using this, you should be!

Adwords is fine and all, but I never use it. I don't see the point of paying for clicks when people can find your site for free.

Adding an affiliate program is a great idea and will help your website get exposure on auto-pilot. Just Add a simple link that says "Affiliates" at the bottom of your website and any online salesmen in your industry will check if they are interested in promoting your products and services.

You don't have to advertise the affiliate program at all just mention it to people when the opportunity presents itself and it will grow on it's own.

Most consumers do not even care whether or not a company has an affiliate program unless the affiliates are spamming your site. That is why you want to keep your affiliate program on the low in the first place so you can screen your affiliates.

        Hi enterscope

One of my concern is whether to make the link obvious or discreet.

Initially, I was thinking of making it obvious by inserting the link in the page menu bar, now I will just insert the link at the bottom of the page.

        Thank you for your advice.

      Hi mgreener

I'm just a basic user of adwords and do not know about retargeting, I will find out more to see how it can improve the clicks to my site.

      Thank you for your advice.
