What's the value of a Squidoo Lens?

I have a lens that I created earlier this month. So far it's made about $65 in sales, $40 being profit. I'd like to sell it but I don't know how much I can get for it. Where can I sell it?

Let me say I m surprised you are even making money with squidoo. I haven't seen a squidoo lense in 2 years in the SERPs. Didnt even know they still exist. Big G gave them a big smack in the you know where due to their spammy nature. I hope you get the gist of this message.

Plenty of Squidoo lenses rank well for long tail keywords.

I'm not sure how easy it'd be to sell one, though. Maybe direct the traffic to a new site and sell the site instead?

I was also shocked to see the amount your Squidoo lens was making. I didn't know they still made money after what Google did to them. Not sure what it would be worth due to that reason.

    Well...

How much traffic is it getting?

How well is it ranked in the search engines?

Is it continually producing both traffic and sales?

If it is, then I would say use the 10X method, if it is continually producing $40 profit, sell for $400. Now this doesn't mean your going to get $400 for it, that is just the max you can possible sell it for.

Now your going to get what ever the buyer wants to pay for it, so get your negotiating hat on. And I would first go to Flippa.com, little expensive, but I've always be able to sell my virtual assets there.

It's ranked on page 1 of google. It's only getting about 15-20 visitors per week from google due to the low search amount...but I've advertised using other Free methods...so it's getting about 200 visitors per week with that. I'd be happy with $150..lol

Does it cost to list on flippa?

I would suggest you try digital point instead of flippa bro, and the price would be easier to estimate after 3 months to get you a higher value by multiplying the average monthly revenue by 12 to give you the maximum you can ask for.

That's for sites you own, Yaheem, not for the content of subdomains on sites owned by third parties! :p

It's far, far easier to sell it on your own site, Bill. Even if you just put its content on free hosting such as at Byethost or 000WebHost.

On Squidoo's site, they own the site, not you. You own the content, but if you want to sell it, you have to find someone willing to buy a site they can never own or control themselves. All you're really selling, effectively, is the right of access to a sub-domain of a domain owned by someone else - and a notoriously inconsistent "someone else" who keeps changing his terms of service. Much easier to move it first!

There's a lens valuation tool at:
    Valuation for Squidoo Lenses [Beta]

And lenses are bought and sold quite frequently on the SquidU forums:
    SquidU: The Lensmaster Lounge

You can also put an ad on the lens itself for interested potential buyers to contact you.

I wouldn't have thought you could sell a page on a site you don't own on Flippa, but maybe you can.

And yes, Squidoo has long, long recovered from the previous slap, and was never much affected by Panda like Hubpages or ezineaarticles. There's a lot of misinformation around.

There is also a facebook group for buying and selling squidoo lenses. And if it's top tier or second tier I have an email of a man who pays money for top tier and second tier lenses. Email me. It's new though ... so unless it's top tier I don't know if you'll get $150.

People still make money with Squidoo, it's true! I've seen people with 10 Lenses in Tier One making them $400 per month just on the Squidoo pay outs alone.

I think Squidoo have tightened the leash on affiliate lenses though so you're only going to make money through the Squidoo system which is something you have to work too hard at. (unless you sneak in an affiliate page every now and again)

      Nobody's questioning that, certainly.

What they sometimes don't quite appreciate, though, is that they could have done exactly the same on their own site, on their own hosting (even if it's free hosting) which they themselves own and control.

Their income would have been exactly the same that way, but its prospects for security and longevity greatly enhanced, simply by their being in control of their own websites.

Or unless you own and control your own site (even if it's on free hosting) and then you get to make up the rules and you don't have to "sneak" anywhere, or anything: you can earn your living openly, rather than sneakily, without worrying unnecessarily about someone else's terms of service!

These conversations usually go the same way: there's a minority of people, sometimes with some Squidoo-related financial interest, pointing out "advantages" which would, in reality, apply equally wherever your site were hosted.

Meanwhile, this thread was started off by someone who's made $40 profit from a site/page, and almost certainly won't be able to sell it, as it stands now, partly because he doesn't own the site (only the content). Does that tell you anything?

These threads, which contain plenty of factual information as well as some opinion, may be helpful to anyone interested in the subject who's willing to read them ...

In my experience Squidoo lens do not rank like they used to. Usually only very long keywords, infrequently searched. And so many restrictions on what you can sell, make them a poor choice, imho.

I'm not sure where you can sell it, but if you search on Google I know there is a site that approximates the value of lenses. That could give you an idea of how much you should try to get for it.

I just found this interesting thread. I'd be interested to know how it worked out Bill_Lawrence. Did it continue to earn well? I hope so, did you sell it? I'd love to hear about it.

I find the ones that earn Amazon sales within the first week are the ones that usually earn over $50 average per month in sales after few weeks of the google dance, they pop back up and earn.

A lot of mine have taken off in the past few months, and I can assure people Squidoo is far from dead. I am scrambling to diversify ( and spread out my risk) because the earnings are so lopsided, I'm trying to get my own sites up, as I am still pretty new.

I am planning to sell some lenses, and had no idea you could sell on flippa. I'll look into it. I have poeple asking me and have no idea what to charge. I know it is what the market will bear, but don't want to give up steady monthly earnings for peanuts either. My best one has made about last $400 month, so it certainly competes with a small website.

Thanks for any more insights or suggestions on price. Also if page rank has any bearing on value, many are surprisingly PR 3 to 5 so good for links as well as sales.

I have a lens that used to make about $200-$250 a month. It's down now to about $125-$150 since google did their update a few months back.

I had someone offer me $150 for it but I didn't even consider it.

I totally agree jpsween88, though it is primarily Amazon income and the ctrs are great. I am setting up my own blogs right now, but it is a bit harder to figure out and takinga while. It also hard to turn down monthly average earnings of $11 per lens too but I have to diversify.

Right now my Squidoo lenses are all I really know how to do, and some other Web 2.0. I have only been at this since last fall and I am just learning wordpress. I still don't really get backlinking and don't backlink my lenses at all, just ping them for indexing, so am nervous about how much work (and what is going to be for nothing in the end) it is to get a niche website to rank for a similar keyword.

TreyW, sorry to hear that. Yes, you could earn $150 in a month with it, why sell for less than a months earnings! Maybe it will go up again, is it a seasonal item too? Did you have a lot of links to your lens that may have affected it? My Wizzley articles seem to have been hammered lately, though the Squidoo just keeps rising.

      About affiliate marketing with Squidoo...

There are some topics that are frequently associated with spam, and so Squidoo doesn't allow lenses on those topics anymore, and hasn't for years. And if you manage to sneak in under the radar, they will likely lock your lens once they find it.

Then again, if you're staying clear of the topics they don't like, and if you're being judicious in your use of affiliate links by sprinkling them in with a lot of interesting and valuable content, Squidoo can actually work very well for you.

This is especially the case if you create and give away lead gen special reports and put the affiliate links inside those reports - and then follow up with an autoresponder sequence. To make this work really well, you'll need to have squeeze pages you own, though. You can stick them all on one domain though, so it won't have to be costly.

That way you can have the best of both worlds - Squidoo - and leads that are on YOUR list (and you should also have some websites of your own where you set up squeeze pages). You then use Squidoo to get people to those pages.

Before the Google updates, Squidoo lenses are very easy to manage and you can really benefit from them SEO-wise. But just after the updates, Squidoo became very strict and you can't even keep a lens published for long. Good for you, you even monetized and made good money off of it.

As someone who has made tens of thousands of dollars flipping Squidoo lenses, I'll tell you how to flip it...

Find marketers in that niche and approach them with the idea of buying it. IE: If it's a bike rack lens, contact site owners of bike rack sites and show them the stats of ranking as well as the earnings.

Don't flip it within the Squidoo community or whatever.
