Hello All,

Well, after a few years out of the game, I'm looking to get serious about making money online.

First a little history.

I tried IM a few years back with little money and a cloud of desperation hanging over me. I was a member of wealthy affiliate, had a few websites, tried to drive traffic to those websites and basically gave up after ~6 months. There are many reasons for my failure but a few that come to mind are impatience, novice (at best) IM technique knowledge, lack of funds (which could have allowed me to farm out some of the things that I was not comfortable doing myself), and a negative attitude (going through divorce and major economic hardship at the time).

Well, I'm back.

I am in a much better situation mentally and monetarily, and researching the best method (for me) to make serious money in the hope of someday being able to quit my day job.

I look forward to learning and relearning methods and reading posts from all of you.

Thank you,
#giving

First of all welcome back. Second of all, you can start Internet Marketing with very little or no money it is possible, I know this for a fact because I did. However, I will agree that it's nice to have money for testing and such. You are correct when you say that it's important to have a positive state of mind when doing IM.

Thank you for the kind words. It is much better to have a good-paying job and loving home life when delving into IM, as I do not "need" to make money right away and thus less likely to make a rash decision.

However, because I have extra funds, I am looking to perhaps buy an established site or other more turnkey solution, for at least one of my income streams. In particular I was contemplating Roy Carters "magicbuttonebook" option. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any discussion as to whether or not it is worth the cost, or if anyone has utilized his service.

Looking at the sales website for that, I'd say skip it. $3,000 for an ebook and sales site is too risky when he doesn't have a portfolio to view. Legit writers and designers tend to show off what they've done in the past. All I see is a really crappy one page site that looks like something you'd have seen online in 1995. If that's what he is using, what is he making for you? The same thing? Seems like a newbie trap to me.

Watch and learn what the other members of this forum are doing. Learn as much as you can about a specific niche. They've already created a road-map, just make something a little better that provides something that no one else can offer.

You can really live the life you want. Wake up in the morning and somehow - there's more money in your bank account then when you went to sleep!

    Good luck mate,

    Jake

Welcome back! It takes a brave person to try again at something that they once failed at.

Just start small and make a few sites. I learned how to do this by doing...and by making lots of mistakes :-)

Welcome back Dargo! The game's a little different that it was 4 years ago (heck, it's different than it was 4 weeks ago!), but you can still make it.

    Hey Dargo,

If you don't wont to overwhelm yourself and repeat what happened last time, don't get into buying the latest tools craze again or jumping from one thing to the next.

All you need to do is...

    1) Pick a niche market - check out Amazon best sellers list to see what's selling.

    2) Do some keyword research into the information that people are looking for in that niche (i.e. problems they need solved). Decide how you're going to position yourself in that market in terms of the information you'll provide to help people.

    3) Grab a domain name, some good hosting, setup a wordpress blog.

    3) Write (or outsource now that you've got some funds to invest) 1 highly useful article per day that educates visitors about your niche for at least 30 days. Post those to your blog each day. Aim to get 100 pages of high quality UNIQUE content up there over the long term (the more the better) and become a mini authority on your topic.

    4) Setup a lead capture form and build a mailing list. In fact, do this as one of the first tasks so you're getting leads as soon as traffic starts arriving.

    5) Build links by doing some high quality article marketing - get some high quality content published on niche related blogs. This will drive immediate direct traffic back to your site and help to prop up your SEO. You can outsource this content generation as well if needed (or as an alternative to the content you'll post to your blog if you want to write that all yourself). Depending on how agressive you want to get, that can be ALL you need to do in terms of an SEO strategy.

Continue to work until everything above is complete, forget about all the other crap out there and remain focused.

That's all you'll need to do.

If it fails in terms of making decent income, you've probably selected the wrong niche market (not a large buying market). Understand that can AND ACTUALLY DOES happen to even the most seasoned online marketers. It's business. Worst case you'll be able to turn around and sell this asset on flippa.com to recoup some of your investment.

It really is that simple mate.

Although some people might tell you things have changed over the past 4 years - the real truth is nothing has really changed over the past 12 years - things have just become a lot noisier. The above method works as well today as it did back in 1998. Most people don't stick to it however as it can get pretty repetitive and boring (if you're not that into your niche market). I mean it can be tough to produce all that content - but it is a must. Not too mention, people also get distracted by all the noise.

In fact, I'd say you'd be better off NOT coming back to this forum for the next month until you've done the above. Or if you do, limit yourself to 30 minutes per day maximum - keeping in mind that in those 30 minutes you could've produced another piece of high quality content to actually build a relationship with your new audience.

    Best...

Thank you for all the replies.

I've been thinking about the logistics of what I want to do and how I can make an income/profit doing so.

I'm also slightly torn as what I'd "like" to do may or may not produce the "profit" that I desire.

Keep in mind, for all activities listed below, I would utilize both my own writing/IM skills as well as hiring out work to others. I will be stressing quality.

Here are my thoughts (comments are appreciated):

    1. Start a blog related to history/politics as they apply and impact one's daily life. Compliment these blog posts with occasional humorous musing regarding the passing scene.

Pros: I am very knowledgeable in these areas and am able to write intelligent (and perhaps even interesting and humorous) articles related to almost any historical or political topic.

Cons: I have no idea if this website would generate the traffic needed to provide an income greater than the time and money effort required.

    2. I would set up an opt-in list and provide Free materials to subscribers. Over time, I would attempt to sell a quality eBook to this list and also advertise it on the website.

Cons: Are their even any quality PLR/eBook sources related to history/politics? There probably are some related to general lifestyle which may be related.

    3. I would become an Amazon (or other bookseller) affiliate as person's reading a blog related to history would tend to be people who would go to Amazon and buy a book.

OK, That as far as my thought process has gotten. As mentioned, this is what I could see myself doing without becoming bored. However, this would be more of a long term endeavor (maybe not if I paid for lists, PLR, eBooks, Articles, etc.?)

One of the other options is to simple start a website (or buy one) to promote a single product and learn how to do that. It is a bit less elegant, but potentially faster, method for making money. But is it only a short term solution? Also, isn't that what so many others have tried (and failed) to do?

    Thoughts, comments, rantings appreciated.

    Thank you,

Don't spend too much time learning and not enough time doing. Focus on what it is you want to do and take massive action, and don't let the fact you don't need to earn right away slow your progress because it certainly can.

Hope all goes well with your return to IM.

Awesome that you are back and in a better state of mind.

You know you have ALREADY got everything that you need and that is the state of mind you have.

Everything is directly a result of how you feel about things and how you react.

Add focus to a positive state of mind and you get determination.

Keep going, don't give up, focus on one thing till you see results and you will be back with a bang...

First off, welcome back, Dargo. I must admit I am pretty much in the same boat as you are. I wanted to start a new thread but you have expressed my sentiments exactly so I just chimed in and I thought we can both learn from what others here have to say :-)

I have been trying my hand at IM in and out for the last several years but life seems to be getting in the way... like my family, job, etc.

I have never gotten any real sense of support from family, saying that this "computer stuff" would not get me anywhere and just a waste of time... that I should concentrate on my job which brings food on the table and actually pays the bills.

I've gotten several domain names, installed Wordpress on them and let them rot and expire; not because I didn't want to do it; I really do and I know in my heart of hearts it is what I want to do.

I think my main enemy is not being focused. I've jumped on a lot of WSO's that I got so overwhelmed and I just got stuck. I didn't know where to start.

Then came health issues... to make the long story short, I have been unemployed because of health issues and medical procedures.

Whenever I try to open up my WSO files, I get terrified at the amount and I just freeze. I don't know if this is a common problem, but it is what it is for me.

The point is, I've been living off of savings and I'm just about to go poof!

I need guidance on where and how to start and actually do IM and not just do what I have kept on doing.

Thanks and I do hope anyone can help...

yes, I gave up once, and quit internet marketing.

But I think things like this happen for a reason, so a rest is probably what is needed.

I have to tell you when I did come back, the thing that changed everything for me what these three things.

      1) Build a LIST!

      2) Build a LIST!

      3) Build a LIST!

I think you are getting my point ey? DOing this and keeping this tattooed in my mind each week is when the BIG KAHUNAS started to roll on in.

Welcome back, now get off butt and start building your list. It is by far the number one asset any internet marketer can have in his / her back pocket.

Hey, you have a plan. Take action. One very important key to success, MINDSET! Believe in yourself, don't give out. If related to technical stuffs, ask, you always get answer! If something required to spend money to do it, look into Fiverr (for real cheap gigs) or freelancer (those guys inside are very good). Everything has a solution, the key to success is within yourself!

      Well, I now have a domain/website......

I'm using Wordpress and since I've never used it before, let the learning begin.

I did buy a WordPress book from Barnes and Noble to help me with setting everything up and designing the site.

I have a good idea of how I'd like it to look/feel based upon a very successful blog that also uses Wordpress.

So I'll be reading and working on site design. Then I'll have to figure out how to implement an opt-in list, etc.

I'm sure I'll be starting new threads when I run into confusing situation, which I expect to be often.

If you want a real, sustainable online business, then create an authority site on a topic that you are passionate about. Start a blog, and write an article or two every day. Also write some product reviews of products on different affiliate networks (amazon or clickbank). If you do this, you are set to make money for a long time.
