Help ! Can someone please help me with a Twitter issue???

Hi everyone,

Can you please let me know what is happening when I reply to someone who is not my follower (on Twitter that is) ???

I've been trying to use Twitter a bit in the last 2 - 3 days, as following: I key in a certain search term and see if anyone has asked about it in the last few days, and then I reply to him/her, including a link to a webpage where the answer to his problem can be found...

However... It seems like all those people I replied to (15 - 20 of them) did not even see/get my reply

Could you please explain what might be the issue ???

Many thanks, Roni

Sounds like an issue you should take up with twitter directly. I've not had this happen before

Did you contact twitter support? There are great resources for this... it could be that your account is new and not validated or verified? It could also be a case where it thinks you are spamming. Be careful.

People who follow you see your tweets. People who don't follow you, don't see them. I wouldn't send out unsolicited commercial tweets to people ... it's just spam and not many people like spam.

This is very confusing, you see, every Twitter Guide says that one of the BEST ways to get more followers is simply by using the "search" to find people who ask questions about your niche and provide valuable answers to them...

You, on the other side, say that such behavior will not give me any benefit (to put it mildly...)

So how on earth do you use Twitter to market yourself and your valuable knowledge ????

      Cheers, Roni

Twitter is a social network. I use it socially. If you use Twitter the way it was intended ... networking with like-minded people, you may build some valuable business relationships without the time wasting Twitter spamming that most people engage in.

I've heard a lot of people who use it for networking with people in their line of business or niche that have formed profitable alliances through networking.

Thanks for the prompt reply Suzanne, but how do you go about it? Are you simply following like-minded people and hope they will follow you back?

          Thanks, Roni

Not me but other people do. As I mentioned, I use it socially only. I follow a small handful of mostly famous people and blogs that I enjoy reading. Nothing more.

Networking is just another word for making friends. Follow people you admire and respect in your niche and then begin making friends. You can do that on Twitter and in forums, etc. Don't expect anything in return when making friends. Go out of your way to help others. This is creating alliances that could lead to future business.

Let's assume you replied to CDarklock, which is my Twitter account. (Duh.)

This creates a tweet in YOUR timeline - and all your followers' timelines - which starts with @CDarklock.

    That's it.

Your followers see it because they are following you, but the person to whom you are replying will only see it if they are either following you, or they search for @replies on Twitter at large.

I follow some people who don't follow me back, but who frequently check their @replies. Chris Yates, for example. If I reply to him, he'll generally see it in an hour or less, because he checks his @replies often. But he doesn't give a crap what I say when it's not about him, because I never shut up, so he doesn't actually follow me.

Meanwhile, I don't check my @replies like... ever. So you can @reply to me all day long and I won't see it unless I'm following you.

Nor do I ... it never even really occurred to me to check @replies. :p

Thanks for the informative reply CDarklock... I think I understand now... What about "direct messages"? Do people tend to check them?

      Cheers, Roni

Well, first of all, you can't send a direct message to anyone who isn't following you.

As far as whether people check them, let me put it this way: I don't even know HOW to check them anymore.
