I just need to vent about Pinterest and FB...

So thinking about Pinterest and all the new WSOs and everything else that are popping up about how to use it.

Think about it ... Simply substitute the word "Pinterest" for "Facebook," "YouTube," "Twitter," and even "My Space," "Stumble Upon," "Digg," etc., it's all the SAME FORMULA, just repackaged with a brand new shiny trendy social media site!

It really is! Whenever the next "new, shiny thing" pops up on the Internet, you literally have to go through THE SAME process to find, like, post, and share it with as many people as you can. Only now it's called "pinning." Wow, how ingenious is that.

But isn't this what we were supposed to be doing with MySpace and Twitter when they first arrived on the scene? Oh Yes It Is!!! You're supposed to already have your MySpace "friends" and followers herded over to FB and then herded over to Twitter.

NOW you need to get your FB fans to Follow you on Pinterest; and get your Twitter Fans to follow you on Pinterest, and get your Pinterest followers to be your FB fans, and get your .... OMG where does it end??!!

SOCIAL MEDIA INFORMATION OVERLOAD! It's like the Pied Piper just saw something cool and he's changed direction - now everyone follow - and share - and pin - and post - and ... I'm getting dizzy!!

I mean, who has time to be trying to get all these people to follow them all over the damned place! I feel like a FKN shepherd out in a field somewhere! It's ridiculous!

I'm just going to do my good old reliable articles, craigslist ads and YouTube videos. And if people want to play follow the leader and share and like and post and pin and like and follow and repin and refollow or share and like or like and share or whatthehellever, there's all kinds of damned buttons on my site once they get there. It can happen organically.

And as Danny Glover would so aptly say, 'I'm too old for this sh**'

    I feel your pain.

Really it's all about getting in front of your prospects... where they "hang out" online.

If they are using Pinterest, why wouldn't you try and see if that is a good way to reach them?

It may be be, or it may not be, depending on the demographic of your target market.

If you have plenty of leads and you feel your current marketing efforts are sufficiently nurturing relationships with prospects and/or customers, then there is no need to look at anything new.

Where they hang out online... it's like that old saying from some movie a lifetime ago, "They're everywhere! They're everywhere!" Honestly, I don't know how THEY have time to be everywhere!

haha you said you needed to vent and that you did!

I see your point there and would have to agree it can get to be too much at times!

I like to look at it like this...

People used to gather and listen to people speak...then they made newspapers to send to the masses...then radio...then television...cell phones...internet.

Social media is evolving on its own - and we can expect this pace to quicken, not lessen as time goes on. We either try to keep up - or we fall behind our peers and society. To some of us that means actual dollars in our bank account and food on the table, so we're hard it it!

You were spot on when you said replace the word 'Pinterest' with X...it IS a template, and it will go on for a long time to come with something new.

Did you guys hear about Fancy? lol

Ooooh Noooo Mr Bill!!! There's another one???

My cousin has twins plus a third one that's only a year younger than the twins and SHE'S everywhere! How??

I know how - look around.. people are literally ATTACHED to their mobile devices! I may be showing my age here, but some of these people remind of the Borg aliens from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Things popping out their ears, attached on their fingers - OMG

And just when cell phones were starting to get microscopic, like the size of a hearing aid, all of a sudden they're getting larger again because OMG people can't leave their entire COMPUTERS at home, so now the phones have to get larger because they're also traveling PCs!

      I just don't get it...

I mean, I literally know more about computers than either of my kids (one drives for a living; the other is a welder and neither of them is ever online!) and I just don't understand the concept, let alone the NEED if not an obsession of having to be "connected" to "someone, somewhere" every second of the day.

I mean, really??? When I got my driver's license, once you left in your car, that was it. If someone needed to get a hold of you, they had to wait until you reached your destination. If you needed to get a hold of someone, you either waited until you reached your destination or you stopped at a pay phone. Two options.

OMG how did we survive that??!!

Today? When I leave my house, it's to GET AWAY from my computer, not take it with me! And my cell phone? It's just that and only that, a cell phone. No Internet connection, no email; just a phone.

So I guess I'll either fall behind or I'll need to make sure that whatever I do in my own little corner of the online world is "big enough" so that as everyone else is running around in circles, they'll have to go by me at one point or another in their travels. ROFL

I was watching some show on Science or Discovery channel with the new phones they can implant in your eye - already working - 'it gives you INSTANT access to your email!" LMAO

(What happens when you buy one? They put out a newer model 6 moths later and another surgery I guess? No thanks - my Crackberry has a power off button!)

        Thanks for venting... You rock!

I don't think age has much to do with it.
I'm a young buck but I agree with what
        your saying about social media.

It's a circus and trying to keep up with it
        all is a juggling act!

I believe in sticking with what works for
        you.

Well??? This will be the first time I've actually outsourced the craigslist ads. The article marketing has always worked; my traffic is up, but just not from FB or Pinterest.

Exactly. I kind of have a system down that's working - sort of. ROFL

Once I do an article, I run it through the "sharing and posting and tweeting and pinning" cycles and then leave it alone and move to the next article.

When I do a YouTube video, rinse and repeat. When I come up with an image ad for craigslist, same thing again with that link.

I kind of feel like I'm doing the laundry online.
