How do you tell if a WSO is worth promoting?

I was just wondering what criteria would be used to see if a WSO is worth promoting?

Exactly. I would never promote anything I hadn't purchased myself, unless I know and trust the person and the quality of their products.

    • If I were in your situation, I'd do these things, step by step:

      1. Select a set of WSOs about something that I have at least substantial expertise in. This'll help me promote it better, later...

      2. Prune my list of WSOs at this point, by checking out the reputation of the sellers in the WF and all over the Internet. This will allow me to know exactly which of those sellers have contributed useful and unique info, advice, products and services in the past, as well as those without criminal records or have been suspected of obscene acts involving inhumane cruelty and unspeakable greed...

      3. Check out reviews left by other warriors. Also check out those warriors. They might be into some sort of agreement with the seller to tell others that their WSOs are the greatest and coolest and biggest and baddest things that ever happened to the online business and marketing world, you know...

      4. Contact the sellers and ask questions about their WSOs. This'll help me know the sellers better, if their lunatics, maniacs or friendly people who know what they're strutting and talking about. If they pass my "weirdo/creep test", then I'll go ahead and ask them if I can get a copy of their product, since I'll be promoting it. If they don't agree, I'll ask for a discount. If they don't agree, I'll ask them why. If they give sensible, logical answers, then that's the time I'd buy their WSOs. Kidding aside: If they appear to be great people with great WSOs, then I'd gladly buy the WSOs to test them out...

      5. At this point: I'd test out their WSOs, monitor my results and contact their support departments, in case I have questions or problems or issues. Now, this gives me a chance to only include, in my list of WSOs that I'll promote, the WSOs about things I substantially know many things about, the WSOs that can actually provide their target markets with the benefits mentioned in their sales pages, the WSOs developed by reputable sellers with excellent pre and post buyer support, and the WSOs reviewed as good WSOs by reputable warriors...

As you might have noticed, it's not as simple as buying the WSO, testing it out, and if it's any good, promote it. Well, that's if you want optimal conversions, anyway...

Contrary to what others are saying, I don't think you have to go through every single WSO before you promote it. If you do, you will be forever studying and testing WSOs to find the good ones. Hundreds of WSOs are launched every month so it is almost an impossible task.

It's definitely a good idea but not essential.

You can simply get the statistics from Warrior Plus. Look at:

    - Number of copies sold (e.g. 100+)

    - High conversion rate

    - Low refund rate

    - Good commission rate

    Simple as that!

That will guide you towards a shortlist of potential good ones, but believe me - high sales and low refund rate is NOT the be all and end all. You still need to know what you are promoting.

        I agree.

You can learn more about a WSO in the sales letter and from comments left by other warriors. If there are many pages of positive comments, then it is likely to be a popular and quality WSO.

Of course, the best way is to buy it and go though it yourself. That's what I do if it is something that I would like to learn more of.

I am just saying that we don't always have the luxury to do that due to time constraint.

OK, got to buy a WSO before I promote...........

Thank you all for your great advice - the main message I keep getting is buy and try. I looked at Warrior Plus and saw some great results in sales (1000+ for a couple). But what is an acceptable refund rate? under 5%?

    Hi @craigpullman,

I would definitely read/ go through the information of the entire product or service, to experience it myself before ever suggesting it to someone else. Either ask the vendor for a review copy or just purchase it.

A good WSO for you may not be something that I would consider good. If you have built a list you probably did so by attracting like-minded people. Promote the WSO that you might find is common to you and your list.

First step is for you to try it out yourself. You can never tell if something is worth promoting to your list/audience unless you buy it and give it a try.

Once you have tested it out, you can ask some people in your list (if you have one) or take a survey to see if people would be interested in that kind of product.

See the response you get, and if you feel it is still worth promoting, do it

i always go through the product before i recommend anything to my lists

i think the only people that wouldnt want to do this are the people that like to promote products 10 times a week and in that case yes they will spend a lot of there time going through wso`s

but if you do a promotion every now and again which is fine then you should have no problem studying a wso to make sure its quality

after all you spent the time building your list up so why go and take a risk of promoting something that you have never even looked at

First of all look at the sales page, read through it to see if idea seems to be fresh. Thank check out author's page to see who is the author of the product and if he/she had previously launched any successful products. If it seem legit, just buy it, go through it and see it for yourself. Worse comes to worse, if it's not what you have expected, you can get a refund

    Based on my experience...
the only way you could know the WSO is good or not by see the content by yourself.

But to pick a good WSO to promote, you could see the Bumps stats and Refund Rate.

If the WSO have been bumped more than 25 times (25x$40= $1000) and refund rate is 0%-1%, we could see that the WSO is very profitable and a lot of people satisfied with their purchase.

Getting a copy of the WSO & going through it yourself is definitely the best idea, especially if you are going to promote it to your list. But there are other factors - reviews on the thread itself, and a recommendation by someone you trust are good pointers. For me, the refund or conversion rate are not important - provided it is a good product with good reviews, and you don't make ridiculous promises in your promotion, refunds will be low anyway.

I go through or even use many things that I've promoted.

Some that I haven't used myself, are simply redundant to something else I use, however as I assess them I feel they are honestly worthwhile.

That is nice, but I look at two numbers, and the samples given fail on both counts. 5% and 9% conversion are too low for me. If there were not many options for the day, I might consider the 9% conversion, but I will never mail an offer that converts as low as 5%.

Visitor Conversion is #1, and EPC ($ per visitor) is #2.

I look at those two numbers to decide what I will buy to see if I can recommend it to my readers.

Also important is comments in the thread, the topic of the WSO, and believe it or not, who is doing the WSO. There are a couple sellers whom I will never promote, no matter how good their numbers are.

I agree, these 2 statistics are crucial.

What conversion rate is acceptable for you? More than 10%? What about EPC? Do you consider refund rate?

Since my lists are small, I want to see conversion rates in the +10%.

Of course, I can frequently bring up an offers conversion rates, by outperforming what the seller could do on their own. For example, an offer I promoted the other day was converting at 14% when I mailed. My mailing converted at 25%, bringing the overall conversion for the offer to 18%.

I want to see a solid conversion rate for two reasons:

          * I have to maximize my potential on a mailing; and
          * I cannot make bad copy sell. I can only strengthen the performance of what the seller has given me to work with on their sales page.

I want to see EPC in the plus one dollar range.

Refunds usually don't come into account, unless they are over 5%, which is very rare.

A good product may or may not sell well depending on the sales letter, testimonials and reviews by others. If a good product is not converting, that means the marketing aspect of the product has failed.

It doesn't make "marketing" sense to promote a good product that doesn't convert, unless you are buying it for your own use. Wouldn't it be better to promote a good product that converts well?

If the refund rate is high, that means a lot of people think that it is crappy. So it is likely that your subscribers will find it crappy too. So why ignore refund rate?

Your conversions will have a LOT to do with how you treat your list.

The reality is there are a LOT of people out there who promote new WSO offers to their lists religiously and these people bring down the average WSO stats very quickly because they just hound their list with offers and as a result, their subscribers very rarely buy. So these people end up bloating the WSO stats for a lot of new products.

That's not to say YOUR results need to be anywhere near as bad as theirs.

Most WSO's will never even make 100 sales but I was able to make this guy over 300 sales from one simple email. The power of email when it's not abused is magical.

So I don't always pay attention to the numbers in Warrior Plus. If I like the product and think my members will benefit from it, then they are going to hear about it regardless of the stats.

I can tell you the overall stats for the above product were nowhere near 22% conversions but that meant nothing to me, as you can see in the screenshot above.

Targeting is also VERY important. Only send products that are highly relevant to the people on your list. You wouldn't send your straight mate gay porn images, right, so treat your email list like you would your best friend.
