When you are about to create a new forum on your website...

Hello warriors,

I am thinking to add a forum to my site. I have a website that has a decent daily traffic and I am afraid that the forum will be empty for a long time even if I post useful threads... nobody (or very few people) will reply.

I was thinking like... if someone visits the forum and see that the threads have no replies, wouldn't he quit immediately? (honestly this is what I do).

What do you reckon that I do in this case? (I am not a fan of making fake replies/memberships).

Did you ever create a successful forum? Can you give advices on how you got users to start submitting threads and replying? (Again I can benefit from my current visitors but not sure how to begin...)

Thanks in advance :-)
Wassim

I haven't used any forums yet for any of my websites, but have done a little reading on getting them started.

One thing I remember reading was to find an active forum that is related to your niche. Then ask the moderator to start moderating your forum and to send traffic to it by mentioning that they are moderating it also.

Now they probably won't do this for free, so you will probably have to pay them for moderating it for you. If you don't have the money now, try and work out a plan for a share of the future profits from the site.

    HI Wassim,

I was faced with the same when I created a free ad forum at my blog. So, I just put my first ad, and left it for people to find it. It took a bit of time, but people do, and then there is no turning back. Just keep it real, and as your traffic grows so will the forum.

    Success,
    Sam

    Hi,

A friend of mine has started a forum and yes it is tough at first to get the people. I would recommend you try and get as many of your IM buddies to post in there, possibly offers fellow IMers incentives such as advertising space to send there lists there if it is relevant to your niche.

If you manage to get your forum off the ground it will work wonders in terms of seo, because if you start to have useful posts, forum users will be linking to them and thus your backlinks will shoot through the roof.

    Hope this helps.

    wassim, interesting.

I started a forum year(s) ago and filled it with content using a forum autoposter "ico content".

to my amazement, now recently the forum started off with getting some REAL traffic. Not much, but more than what i expected.

Check it out 1UP SEO Webmaster and Marketing Forum - Index

By the way..there are some people who say its bad to "pre-fill" your forum, but i think its a good thing since it really gets a forum going. I also stopped my auto content november last year since i switched to SMF.

    Hello Wassim,

I suggest you start with ONLY one forum...
    no sub-forums at all!
(link for a thread about details at the end of this post..)

Then there you post a THREAD with all useful information you wanted
to share...then reply in the same thread with more information,
and asking for other members input...yes you just keep busy that
    thread...

(as you are good at design)
What about creating a Template, create a thread about that
and give that template away, ask the readers to download and
comment.... post that thread as Webpage where people
can download that template...it will attract the users to post...
you can do same with any content/topic...give away some stuff
and ask them to comment.... :-)

And yes you can ask your buddies to post some threads to get it
    going...

Here is a Thread I posted once regarding this BIG mistake many
new forum owners do at start....
    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...-you-read.html

    Wish you best,

      Mohsin,

thanks a million dear. I read your article there and it was really helpful. I will definitely avoid creating unneeded sub-forums. In fact, I'm going to follow your suggestions about creating two main (ON-TOPIC AND OFF-TOPIC) forums. And we'll see then how things go in the future.

      Best regards,
      Wassim
