Next step for a newbie

Hey guys,

I've got a site with an e-mail list building and traffic starting to come to my site through some organic searches. I'm just wondering whether I should wait and try and get google adsense or try monetize my website in other ways (through my newsletter). If you think newsletter is the option can you please advise me on what methods I should undertake and any good threads about it?

OR should I be investing time into creating backlinks etc and try article marketing and press releases so I can increase my rank for certain keywords and drive more traffic?

Thanks

I'd suggest article marketing personally; but not for the purpose of "increasing rank" like you suggested. That's article directory marketing; and doesn't work at all. True article marketing is a great way to establish your reputation and reader expectations before they commit to your list. I haven't heard of a better way to build a great relationship from the get go.

This is not a true statement Submitting articles to the directories can still bring you some traffic directly and it can help you reach out to publishers that will use your articles on their blog or in their newsletter.

Article Syndication is what Joe is referring to and yes it is very powerful, but you should still use the directories.

Article syndication is article marketing. Surely you don't equivocate article marketing with article directory marketing ?

My suggestion is go for newsletter, build relationship with your subscriber, and monetize from there. There are great tips on how to monetize through your newsletter, always provide value through you newsletter and you will soon see a much better result. I have tested that, and it gave me a much higher return compared to adsense, both in monetization and satisfaction - received a thank you email form subscriber

But you will still need to drive traffic to your site so that you get more traffic! Try different ways.. article, video or blog (this can be monetized by having adsense too... )

    To your success,

The only time you should use the word "wait" is when you are selling to prospective customers. Start right this minute to setting up your newsletter series and make sure to provide as much value as you possibly can before you sell to that list. Good marketing is about building relationships and providing value.

You should also take the op advice and generate traffic through article, social, forum, and blog marketing. Just make sure you don't "wait" to build that list and start to provide value.

Be careful with monetizing your blog. Research the ways to do it. But before you disrupt what you already have going for you, research what monetization methods Google will not penalize you for.

Even though Adsense is part of Google, I hear Google is lowering the ranking in the search results for some websites who use it.

I totally agree - after a lot of trial and error and plentiful of gauging of viewers' opinions, a newsletter is indeed the most convenient and accepted model to not just retain but also engage your traffic for long term profitability.

Try and line up some autoresponder messages first - see how many uniques/repeats you get in a month (through Google Analytics and other tracking software) and then take a decision as to how you should monetize it.

Think of visitors to your site as potential customers to a shop. Have some banter with them. Build a relationship so they get to know and trust you. Then put related offers in front of them. Make sure your newsletter has plenty of value. Put yourself in the subscribers shoes. Would you be happy with it.

List building is one thing but list management is another all together.

I am a newbie too, and I actually started my internet business a few days ago. However, I am already receiving subscriptions and sales. I went for tons of workshop and I can finally categorize non- SEO traffic to these five types.

    1. Article marketing : By writing articles related to your keywords, it adds your ranking and creates many backlinks and clicks to your web, besides branding you. Just submit articles to Ezine articles( use it a lot), and start building traffic. Oh yeah, you can also get others to write for you if you are not one for writing. Something like freelancers.com should work for you well ! Post as many articles as you can as fast as you can to get better results.

    2. Video marketing : Make and post videos on youtube with your link! Make it funny or interesting and soon viewers will be flocking your site. As long as the content you give them is good, youtubers generally will see it. You can also make videos of you reading out the articles you have written and posted, it might be boring but at least it has good info!

    3. Blogging : Frankly, I am still trying it out and it is not really working for me, but other bloggers say that it is working for them. Just post a blog every day or two and try to put in good content in it. It seems you can also write it in a diary sorta style, as long as it is interesting! Use wordpress.

    4. Solo Ads : Paid traffic that does not guarantee subscribers. It is a great way to start out when your list is low, but start out slow. Test the waters first. See how many clicks or subscribers you are getting with them and reevaluate the worth of the solo ads. Generally, if you can get a certain amount of subscriptions or sales then, it is worth investing on. Really the trial and error system for internet marketing.

    5. Classified Ads : UsFreeAds is the classified ads strategy I am using right now. There are actually more targeted people to your niche by marketing it with classified ads. And besides it ranks fine on Alexa, the traffic ranking is 1k++ which is considered not bad. You might wanna try it out too !

Hope I helped, good luck !

I'm not a fan of adsense. I think it's more fun and more profitable to build a list and use that to market.

Keep building traffic to your site and build your list up and use that to make gobs of cash
