New website, EMD or brandable name

Hi,

I want to setup a website which should be having alot of content over time.

For my domainname I can either choose a keyword (which consists of 2 words and is also the topic of the complete site) + 1 extra word like "info" or something. Site will target lots of keyword though so it's not only dependent of that one keyword.

Or I can think of a name which doesn't contain any keyword. Like a brand. Not to say that the EMD can't be brandable but I guess it's not ussual...?

Not sure what to do yet. Tips?

I've had better luck with brandable domains. I want repeat visitors and I want people to be talking about my website. I also don't focus on SEO for my traffic though, so that may influence your decision.

You can also include the keyword in your brandable domain depending on your keyword and that would give you the best of both worlds!

I would say to go with the brand name. It's all about trust at the end of the day and getting your brand out there is very important.

Exact match domains seem to have the been the target of the latest google update (24th April). Many have been hit very hard...see the SEO thread in this forum...

        Therefore, go with brandable.

Your first paragraph, I'd like that to happen except I will use SEO for alot of traffic but also want my traffic coming from other places such as social networks.

I do get traffic from search engines, but I focus on methods that will gain traffic and backlinks at the same time rather than only SEO.

Whichever you choose, remember that a domain name is only one of many factors that decide your search ranking. Don't feel like you can't get page one without an EMD!

Hi Spartacus - this completely depends on what type of site you are intending to create. For SEO purposes - EMD's are easier to rank, and for those saying that Google targeted them in their latest update are completely delusional. 25 of my domains are either EMD, or EXTREMELY close and weren't touched by the latest update.

I'd go with brandable. I really don't like adding the suffix to EMDs and for a large content site, I'd rather have a cool, recognizable brandable name.

I think the benefits to having the keyword in your domain have been really reduced over the past year and probably will be even more so, therefore I'd go with brandable!

Plus if you aren't focusing on search engine traffic then that's even more reason to go that route.

I think you should chose your brand name because EMD my be limit your site view means visitor can think this site can have this type of content(As we always guess site content from it's URL and title) as you describe above you have to put lot of content so better to develop your own brand.
