Documenting weight loss for money

I googled this but couldn't find anything relevant. I wanted to see if anyone has experience in this or knows anyone who has tried this and been successful...

I'm a 26 year old guy who currently weights 220lbs and I'm 5'11''. My weight fluctuates like crazy.. the most I get up to is about 225 and when I work out/eat healthy I can get down to 185 within about eight weeks.

I started working out last week to get in shape for the summer and already dropped 10lbs and I can see a noticeable difference. I looked at the scale this morning at thought there might be a way to monetize this.... maybe take daily pictures, list foods ate and workouts done on a new website. I figured I can monetize it with affiliate links for supplements and adsense.

I know weight loss keywords are extremely competitive with SEO but I can link off health and wellness message boards for traffic and hopefully build an audience.

Any ideas on this? Does anyone know of any similar sites like this that they can link me to?

You can find even offline many weight loss companies who pay generously for before and after photos but just for your health shake I would advise you to not lose and gain weight in a consistent level, your health is far more important than money...

I understand.. I'm not planning on doing this over and over but I figured if I am going to loose the weight now anyway (which I will) maybe I can profit off it. I'm going to look in to offline options now. If anyone else has any ideas, please share.

Get a professional copywriter and create a book (Amazon publishing is dirt cheap btw) and do the offline thing. Offer it to gyms and doctors offices or something along those lines or JV with personal trainers.

I did the same exact thing. I have a couple health blogs and did before and after pics of going from a 36in waist to about a 33/32 in three weeks. How? By actually working hard. I documented the process and everything but I don' think people want to buy that stuff if it isn't some magically trick without any work. I had a free training program that I wrote (part of my actual job) and didn't receive any more opt-ins because of it. If you find a way to generate money off this let me know

I know I'll have the same problem if I just document what I do and have before and after pics.. I lose weight / build muscle the only real way you can do it.. intense workouts and a strict diet. I just don't think people would care to read about that unless there is some product being offered with ridiculous claims...

Did you have adsense installed on your blog/website that documented your weight loss?

It's not so much the weight loss, it's the story behind it. It's the testimonial and the "whon what, where, and when" that people buy into. Think self help type of stuff. One of the people I mentor in my pro bono offline group doesn't only have a site on their experience, they are in the writing stage of a contract they scored. Granted it was a hard luck to "look at me now" idea (like 400+ pounds of weight loss without pills and tons of "hiccups" along the way).
The markets out there. I'd honestly (and do it ethically) populate forums geared toward success and self help.

write a complete diary of what you do every day and then turn it into an ebook or videos.

You can definitely monetize it, and you probably don't have to wait until the end, either.

Build up a following with Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc. Have them sign up to a blog or Facebook page and you can promote the same products/methods that are working for you.

Rob Cooper at http://www.formerfatguy.com/ has done something similar, although now I think his site concentrates more on healthy eating/ working out but he offers his weight loss story as an opt in.

I think if you are demonstrating you are losing weight with the help of the products/ plans you are recommending it gives you greater credibility- most of the people promoting these won't ever have actually tried them.
