Found a word to pdf converted app but it sucks, need something to make professional looking ebooks. What do you use?

I use Microsoft word and I have the adobe PDF creator plug-in thing. Works great for me.

OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite does it directly. It can produce some pretty slick ebooks.

Open Office & Microsoft Word.... just save as PDF.

  Depends on the version of Word, but it doesn't always work reliably. Common issues are links that don't work and background images that go wonky.

Word or Open Office for source. There are a few really good PDF converters online for free.

If I remember right, this one did a good job of keeping links intact. The best solution obviously, would be a copy of Adobe Acrobat Pro if you want a lot of control over the document.

Yeah, you can start your ebook creation from Microsoft word and then convert it into Adobe reader.

As a lot of people have said... OpenOffice.
If you want to produce something more graphically advanced, Scribus is a very good desktop publishing application (and free, too).

I create all my ebooks using OpenOffice.org and it's free and pretty easy to use, which i really like.

When i need to make a ebook i just make a book at microsoft word. Then i just convert the document from .doc to .pdf. You may find a lot of free convertor online.

I suppose if you don't like MS Word or Open Office you could by the Adobe Acrobat Professional that allows you to create and edit the Acrobat (PDF) files that you make.

Microsoft Office is great. But here is a website that does it for free and its fast. No adding your email adress or anything

My Microsoft Word saves in a PDF so it saves all the formatting. Then I hand it off to a graphics guy to add a little bling to it.

MS Word and than convert to PDF. The quality of the conversion is very important esp. if you have different borders, quotes on each side, graphs etc.
I used FreePDF4U but wasn't content. Since I've been using PDFill PDF&Image Writer I'm more then happy. The download is free.
