How many computer monitors?

by WebPen

I've only been using one monitor for months, and it's killing me.

The problem is my video card can't use a second monitor and I don't feel like upgrading just yet.

Am I the only one suffering from a onesy?

I just have one at the moment, but will hopefully upgrade to 2 in the near future. For programming, you really need 2 monitors so you can see what's going on as you type it.

I use two monitors. My laptop won't handing a third one or I would use it.

In my 9-5 I do instructional design/technical writing so having two screens to compare my old document to the one I'm updating is a godsend. Once you go to two or more...you will be spoiled. But as a side note, I only have an extra monitor because the job allotted for it; otherwise I would have just the one. :-)

These days I just have one. But here's the timeline:

      I started with this setup:

Then I updated the screen in my small office to this:

And now, just before my sites tanked I got myself one of these:

So as you can see, you don't have to get multiple screens, especially if you don't want to update your graphics card

I only use one screen, but it's a 24" flat screen TV. It's big enough so that it acts like two monitors for me. I also have a laptop to my left, and I'm considering adding a second laptop on my right.

At least, after I am able to pay off the iPads for all the kids in my sig.

I'm using only one but with a trick... Virtual desktops.
See, my desktop operating system is OpenSUSE Linux with KDE4. Just like all Linux desktop managers KDE has virtual desktops, I can put various stuff on each one of them, I typically use 6 it's just like if I had 6 screens I just switch from one to another with either the mouse or a key combination... Easy, and very useful!

Well, I clicked three monitors in your poll; but I'm no g-u-r-u.

I actually have four flat screen monitors (five if you include my laptop!)

Two in my home office in the UK, where I have three computers; one in my house in Spain, where I have one computer and one at my mother's house in the UK, where I have one computer (she is 90 years old, so I tend to vist her often and I hate using my laptop - even though she arranged for my brother to buy it for me as a gift!)

I actually just recently bought a second monitor. I like it cuz i can be working on something like writing a book or article or something and be reading something or watching something on the other page. I just have a hyper active mind so i love multi tasking, it actually makes me more proactive.

I do a lot of RDP to my servers, especially remote computers where my outsourcers and I access software.

          So I have 4 19" monitors in an inverted T configuration (1-2-1).

That seems to be the outer threshold for productivity. 5+ monitors doesn't seem to help much.

I was using just one and then when I started doing some investments/trades, I got two so I could look at charts on one and then do the trades on the other. Then I realized, I still needed one to check email, facebook and everything else...so 3.

However, then I wanted to move around, so now I have 1, 2 or 3 laptops sitting around me if I move to other rooms.
