I've figured out how to become a millionaire

I have to thank Google for this one, they've managed to brainwash many with two powerful little words. "Quality content" and using those words i'm going to start selling products left and right and you're all going to buy them because you won't be able to resist.

I'm also going to make charge backs impossible too with the following

"Disclaimer: if my products don't work for you, you just need more quality content."

Since that seems to be the answer to everything on here...;D

Wow! You must really have an aversion to "quality content." Good luck to you, sounds like you're going to need it

Lets look at it this way, the more powerful your information is the more effect it has on your visitors. The more that you can create an emotional effect in a person the easier it is to bring them to a buying decision. People make decisions on emotion and then back it up with logic (not the other way around)

You know what reigns typically on the front page of reddit, and why pinterest is so popular? and what gets the most likes on facebook? it's not a page full of "content" it's pictures...usually of CATS. And that hardly falls under the "Quality content". Even google is pushing the less is more thing with their minimalist approach to the browser that many have copied. People don't want more, they want less and to the point, it's obvious.

        You're right.

        It's not about quality content.

But it IS about content that people like. That most people will share with others. That is REAL. That's not fake and meant just to get affiliate commissions or just to get people to click on ads.

So, define it as "genuine content that a majority of people like at face value and are highly likely to link to and share with others" and you've got what Google means by "quality content."

Sometimes such content is pictures of cats doing silly things, or a captive panda sneezing, or some stupid little cartoon.

True viral content that's viral just because something about it appeals to most web users.

Sometimes it's a controversial article, or well-written blog post that's highly opinionated.

If any warrior could master this they would have loads of traffic coming in all day long.

But the truth is, it often happens by accident, and by people who aren't "internet marketers" but just real people sharing their creativity with the rest of the web because they had a moment of insight to share with the world or just wanted to fill some time and made something that most people like. And then the monetization can certainly come, but it's usually a secondary thought.

Most internet marketers are doing everything completely backwards and thinking only of money first, and that's why they fail. Most here probably need a complete 180 degree turn to discover what's really always worked and will continue to work in the future.

You hit the nail on the head! A cat picture is higher quality than an unreadable spun article. At least the cat picture has value to someone, people who search for cat pictures obviously want to see them, so that's what G wants to provide for them.

Nobody searches Google tryin' to find a crap article written for the sole purpose of marketing or SEO.

I am new at this, but seems Google is opting for quality (their definition) over quantity. Also, video seems to be the next big thing that helps your content. Useful outbound links as well, but like I said I am new at this.

I read on another forum Google has been banning adsense accounts used with youtube vids, reason given "invalid clicks" so if you use adsense on there i'd be careful.

I had my first online experience in the early 80's on a TI computer and one of those sweet modems like you saw in War Games. I've seen a lot of changes. Once it was no longer necessary to understand how to program html to throw up a webpage and more pages started popping up at an exponential rate and with the advent of 'outsourcing' (read: buying $0.01/word articles from English as a second language folks or English as a first language folks that can't speak/write for crap) and article spinning, what was sometimes iffy content became worse in some regards and in certain corners of the web.

So, I know the point is to be facetious here and make a bit of a funny, but yea, screw anything to do with IM, as an internet surfer, I demand quality content. So do other non-IM web users. And those non-IM web users, some of who never have or will spend a penny online are maturing with the web and will demand it, more and more, in the future.

A lot of people seem to forget that Google is under stiff competition right now. Their demand for quality content ain't a joke; their survival depends upon it.

Not brainwashed, rather I don't want meatheads wasting my time with crap.

Who is Google's competitor? They have a complete monopoly in the US and most countries.

Bing is chomping at the bit for some of that market share, and you can be sure that if Google screws the pooch Bing is going to get it. Then you have all the people who cry "Facebook is getting a search engine, so there goes Google!" Don't know how much I buy into that one; but it is out there.

We say "Quality Content" cuz Google says "Quality Content"

We also say it cuz we're sick of the "Low-Quality Content" we see by the boatload.

Kinda like when you're a musician, you're a lot more critical of the music you hear, and it irritates you somewhat when a musician makes it big by puttin crap music on the radio.

I think that may explain the obsession some of us may seem to have for "Quality Content" - sounds like a broken record, but some folks still haven't "got it"...

              This.

They say it not only with words, openly, consistently, repeatedly and in a variety of different formats (blogs, sites, conferences, videos, etc.), but also with their actions.

As we saw throughout 2011, with all their updates/algorithm-changes, this forum was full of people who had depended on "backlinking services" bewailing their fortunes (and in some cases, even their lost businesses), while those who had depended on high quality content went from strength to strength.

And in 2012, what are we seeing? Exactly: more of the same. Just as Google promised.

Look at how many threads there've been discussing exactly this, over the last couple of weeks and especially over the last couple of days. "More of the same": the people whose businesses depend on high quality content are always overall gainers. I don't see that changing any time soon, do you? I think there's an overall, underlying reason for that, don't you?

Joe beat me to it. Perhaps you misunderstand what the word monopoly means. No such thing exists. I believe it is 30% of the market that Bing has? Maybe I am wrong on that number. Regardless, Microsoft would not being throwing millions upon millions upon millions of dollars at the search game if they thought Google held an unimpeachable monopoly. I have seen on here talk about Facebook, I don't know if it is true or not, but when you have the billions that Zuckerberg has, a few million thrown into the search game could pay off huge.

Not by the real world definition of a monopoly.

Ever heard of Bing? Believe it or not a large percentage of searchers actually use them. Nowhere near Google, of course. But Google DO NOT have a monopoly on search. Articles last summer were saying Bing had 30% of the search market. It may have gone down now but Google probably has about 2/3 and Bing plus the rest of the market probably has 1/3. Hardly a monopoly.

I know a certain kind of person likes Bing better. My dad hates Google and will only use Bing. Bing is also "prettier." Some people like that. Something to think about...

And in all the other areas of business Google has branched out too, social media (not a monopoly there, Facebook dominates), etc. they are not always top dog at all.

You could make the argument that Google is or at least was a few years ago a "natural monopoly."

But complete monopoly? Nope. They have competition, and it has changed things for the better in the last year or two in my opinion.

As we all know , people have been spinning the life out of the same article . One article and thousands of versions saying basically the same thing . Google has cottoned onto that and to sites just putting up ads without much content . When people search the web they are searching for something specific and do not want to go through dozens of sites before they find something relevant.

The searchers are the real customers of Google , not website owners . To grow , Google needs to satisfy their true customers , hence their emphasis on quality content . Some website owners may not like it , because of the work involved but if you want to be in Googles good books , make sure that you have good content . You may be able to rank a site with poor content but that will only be until Google bots scrutinise your site.

Remember though other seo efforts are still required . You still need backlinks etc in conjunction with good content.

They're a business, what do you expect. They want to make money. They're smart enough though to realize that their adwords ads are never going to be seen if their results are crap. People will just go right over to Bing. So it's foolish to think that they don't care about their organic results.
