Moving from Godaddy - Where to?

Hi,

I've recently had an encounter with godaddy, since they said that one of my sites had scripts on it which had used some memory on their servers. I asked which site, but they couldn't say, and they've just closed down the hosting account.
So I've pretty much had it with godaddy now, and their pretty arrogant attitude towards customer service. Furthermore, I don't even have any scripts on my sites, beside Google analytics and adsense.

Where should I move to? Hostgator?
I have a bunch of domains registered, and also I'm using godaddy's hosting platform for my classic asp sites as well as for some php wordpress sites.

I need a reliable register, with good customer service, where I can have my domains as well as hosting.
I also use it for my businesses so they need to be professional.

Any input?

Thanks and have a splendid weekend.

Best regards,
Thomas

First rule of IM - have separate registrar and hosting accounts.

    Registrar - namecheap, internetbs.net

Hosting - stablehost, hostgator - or if want cheap VPS - try out lowendbox

HostGator is very IM friendly compared to most hosting sites. They are known for good customer service. I use them and I'm happy with their service.

HostGator is by far the best option, I transfer my blog there from Godaddy 2 months ago and they did all the transfer and everything was ready in a few days. They just have the best support in the industry.

It looks like the way to go is to use namecheap for domains and hostgator for my sites.

yep, hostgator for hosting and namecheap for registrar.

But...this "combination" is repeated over and over by many...so it becomes almost "too" automatic...

Some don't like HG...I think when you have large sites that do use lots of memory...HG has caused some people some issues...E.g. large autoblogs with 1000s of posts etc...

But customer service is important and HG is excellent.

Namecheap is what I use too, but it's not the cheapest I believe

I would suggest you use bluehost.com. Been with them for almost a year and never had any issues with them.

Godaddy has the world's worst hosting and their customer service in the hosting dept. really sucks.

You can't go wrong with Hostgator. Unlimited domains on one hosting plan (unlimited does mean within reason - should you have a bunch of sites that are consuming a lot of their resources, they will tell you which ones and what you have to do).

My Quick Answer ( and most probably what the others would probably be like to)

    Hosting >>Hostgator (LOVE THEM)

Domains>>namecheap.com ( I had switched all my domains from godaddy to namecheap) I just could never like Godaddy ever

    It is their loss

now you can make the better choice.

I can't believe Godaddy wouldn't tell you which of your websites was causing the memory issue problem... Just ridiculous.

They won't. When their servers get compromised and you end up losing data, be prepared for a $150 fee to restore backups. Ridiculous.

Thanks, guys. Yes, GoDaddy kind of disappointed me there. But unfortunately that has kind of been the standard of their service which I've experienced for quite a while.
So I'm steadily moving my domains to namecheap and my sites to hostgator.

    Thanks for all your input.

    Cheers,
    Thomas
