New here using Hostgator

Dear all,

I need help from you guys. Yesterday i just purchase hostgator baby play together with a domain name. However i am at lost doing the stuffs.

I intend to create a prestashop website, so should i install the files[prestashop] into my website folder, then what about phplist? Do i need to create a new folder inside the website folder? Appreciate someone can help me on this. Thanks

Also if i intend to create more website using the same hosting username, do i need to create new folder for each new website? i am really not sure on this. Hope someone can help me out on this.. Thanks

    Hi Spark,

    It is suggested to you install phplist at new foolder...say yourdomain.com/list
    do not install it at root folder...it will allow you to do other stuff with your domain... :-)

    As far as second question is...i am not sure as i have reseller account...but i think
    you need to first add your new Domain in your account if allowed...then maybe
    new Folder for this new domain would be auto-created....

    Hi - OK - You'll be fine - there's a lot of stuff here about Hostgater, but check out the HG help documentation - that should get you started.As far as I can rfemember, all your sites will be in separate folders in the public_html folder

    Here's my best advice. Spend the $20 a month for Aweber. It'll save you a ton of time and money in the long run. Seriously.

      What Scott has said is what I also want to say...that phplist would suck your so
      much time ....really i have played with this ghost few years ago...and man even
      i was good with web dev stuff, phplist ate my many hours to customize it, tweak it..
      and at the end i have to stop this madness and i stopped using phplist....

      So if you can afford some 3rd part autoresponder and list service like aweber, getresponse,...etc...please go with one of them....

      OR if you cannot afford these services for now, maybe it is not good time
      to start making LIST...maybe at this step LEVEL:1 make site, build traffic,
      sell, get emails and use gmail to communicate....
      and make some MONEY...when your idea is proved, site is making money,
      and you can afford an account with aweber or getresponse or some XYZ list company,
      go with them and make the list and make even more money :-) It would be LEVLE:2 :-)

    Hi Spark,

    What Mohsin said about PHPList placement. Regarding the Baby package and other domains, that's simple. Once you register a new domain, update the nameservers to the ones assigned to your original domain there at HostGator. Then go to your cpanel main screen and look for the link that says "Addon Domains." Click that and fill out the info for the new domain. It will be in a folder (directory) under your root domain, where you can manage everything just like you do with the original domain. Hope that helps.

    Guys, thanks for your help!

    However regarding create a website. I have 1 purchased domain name and use as the main address for my server. However do i still need to go 'addon Domains'?

    I check with HG helpdesk, they mention that for the 1st domain name, it's really does not need to do that..am i doing something wrong?

    P.S: Actually i went to file manager and del every single folder to restart my installation. Did i do something wrong on this? Appreciate someone can help.
