I have 3 friends all succeeding at selling products online.

These are people who I've been friends with for a long time. I see tons of people on here selling things, but when you have friends like this making money, its really drives you in a different way.

One friend was selling plastic caps for paint brushes. They are special caps I've never seen before. When painters don't want to clean their brush, the cap LOCKS over the top, you can keep the brush in there for weeks without it ever drying out. Just put the brush in and snap.

Of course now its taking off for him, and *Home Depot* will be putting it on their shelves pretty soon.

Another friend sells all natural makeup products and is doing great. Website has TONS of excellent testimonies. They recently bought a new house. Don't know what their yearly profit is, but I can TELL they're doing great.

Another friend is selling a product he made for funeral homes. Don't know what it is lol, he's been working in funeral homes his whole life. Now even HE is making good money selling his product to funeral home owners online.

Am I crazy, or is it not as hard as it seems to succeed at selling products to people online? I mean offline too you can't really neglect either. If you are educated, an outside the box thinker, creative, persistent, focused on creating the best value you can, what is really going to stop you?

Your post says a lot - and I think you "get it".

For years I've wrapped wet paint brushes in aluminum foil or put them in a plastic bag to keep them until finishing the job the next day - never thought of a product meant to do the same thing! But I'd buy those brush covers in a heartbeat.

If you have a unique product - a great new idea - something that will help people solve a problem or make their life or work easier....you can sell it.

You have smart friends - follow their example. It works better than the "I'm here - now where do I get the IM money" approach.:p

I see the reasons your friends succeed online is because all of them are focusing on one unique niche.

I think there's a valuable lesson to be learned from their stories if you want to be successful too.

You are quite lucky to have friends like that. To succeed you need to hang out with
successful people. Not only you can ask them whatever you want for help and such,
but the whole energy and vibe is of the right sort.

Statements above are all true! NO.1 principle of any business is solving a problem then getting it out there!

Great advice above - lessons to be learned from picking a niche and sticking with it!!

Personally, I think that most people who aren't experiencing any kind of success are just getting in their own way. In fact, even successful people tend to get in their own way, so they aren't as successful as they might otherwise be.

Some examples how people get in their own way:
    • poor mindset
    • over-analyzing everything
    • fear of getting out of their comfort zone
    • fear of taking action
    • lack of flexibility when things aren't working
    • not sticking with something long enough to make it work
    • failure to set proper goals and create a plan to hit those goals

...and those are just off the top of my head.

my advice is focus on just 1 working method and keep on repeating it.

forget about the next big launches.

make the 3 friends your best friend, because your income is = average income of the good friend surrounding you. (i forgotten who say that)

Selling products online can be easy if your product solves a problem, is within a specific niche and affordable (for the target market). The biggest hurdle for many is getting the traffic to their websites.

A lot of people have an idea for a product, make a couple of prototypes, record videos and create marketing material - then go to kickstarter and get people to pre-buy their product.

Kickstarter is a pretty cool place to take your idea, since you don't have to go manufacture something if you don't get the "reserve".
If your product gets picked up by Wired / Slashdot or anything else (maybe Matt Cutts sends a tweet with a link.. ) then you'll usually be set for that product.

Sometimes, posts like this makes me think... well some people are lucky to find what their niche is and they will just bank on it either offline or online. I'm happy for your friends though, I hope it would be this easy for most IMers.

I dont think online marketing is hard, more that it requires hard work and dedication on the part of the seller to make a go of it. We have a unique product too and our small biz is getting better all the time. It's a product we know inside out and know that it works really well. There's a lot to learn about IM and if you are into it, you never stop learning or stop tweaking how you do things.

I just did all the math required to send in my HST (13% tax we pay in Ontario) last nite and I see we sold a few less kits than the previous 3 months but made more money. We are selling the higher end kits that give us a better profit.

I think a lot of people get into IM thinking they will get rich overnite with zero work on their part. It does not work that way. It's too bad people think this way, but then maybe they need to fail in order to learn you need to work to accomplish anything.

I have different opinion. I read many books that suggest the same idea for success like mindset, attitude, believe, determination... etc. But I see many people who are educated, an outside the box thinker, creative, persistent, focused on creating the best value they can and still not achieve in what they want. So may be some other factors that effect this.
