Who works full-time in addition to IM?

Hey Warriors,

I'm about to graduate from college in 3 weeks. I've already signed on to work a full-time job, working as an account manager at an IT staffing firm near Washington DC. However, I'm looking to continue my internet marketing 'career' after work for additional revenue, help pay expenses, etc. I really enjoy working on my two main websites, Brocrastinator and Jersey Jets Fan, even though I only make around $100 a month combined between the two. I've been working my tail off the past few months to increase revenues so that I have some money when I graduate and begin living in my new place.

I'm curious, how many people are currently working 40 hour a week day jobs and also pursuing internet marketing on the side? Looking forward to hearing your answers and excited to talk with you about your experiences!

-Rob

I am, 5 hour daily commute + 35-40hrs/week + internet marketing at night. No, I don't sleep much and constant 18 hr days suck. But, I couldn't see myself doing anything else at the moment.

Haha I like your "A-Z Guide to Broing Out". That's a good site. Maybe it will blow up if you keep at it.

All I do is go to school full-time(really doesn't take that much time) and work on my sites. In my experience, though, when I have had a full-time job it puts a "premium" on my time, making me use my time off more wisely.

I have recently (2months ago) quit my construction job and started working as an Internet Marketer full time.

I was working full time in construction and just couple hours a week online. Now I'm averaging $5,000 a month that is why I am going full time with Internet Marketing.

I gotta thank Internet Marketing for changing my life, I didn't even go to college, I graduated from High School and just educated myself for about 2 years while working in different jobs, mainly construction. It's been hard but now I am blessed!

by the way I'm only 23 and doing great with IM! in my opinion that is lol

I hope this motivates you to pursuit IM as your main income stream soon...

Matter fact you can start making this kind of money whenever you decide to really. It all takes the right info, that's it!
I mean why do people go to college? why are these "gurus" making the money that you wish you were making?

Is all about what you know and how you use the information, that's it!

It can't get simpler than that!

Learn as much as you can online....that's exactly what I did to go from $150 a month to about $2,000 a month and now an average of 5k!

Some great advice freddy...Since I have really focused on one thing at a time I am seeing results. I am working full time and doing IM after that but i have taken a month off to really concentrate full time on the business. i am going to report my progress over the month on my blog...first report tomorrow. Will be useful info for newbies who are just getting going.

40 hours a week, 1 hour drive to and from, and working on IM whenever I get home or whatever downtime I have at work.

Luckily, I learned the in and outs of my IM methods over the past 2 years, so I already know the extent of the work I need to do to make things faster and easier.

I dont work for pay per se, I help my finacee with our carlot during the day.. mon-fri 9-2, then pick up the kids at 2:30. I find that I am scrambling to manage my business now with this setup, but I would not change it for the world. I feel like I never get burnt out on any one thing. I mean come on, retsoring a mustang during the day, having family time and keeping my creativity alive through my business a few hours a day. I know yrs ago, I worked 16 hour days on my im business. It was a huge success, but I missed out on so much. I say if you can find balance, and enjoy each moment of your life, you are pretty damn successful. Now I won't lie, I sometimes wish I had more time for MOMTraders, but this is my life and I love it. Goodluck. also I like your sites. cool ideas

I've been offered a couple of jobs here in Silicon Valley and turned them down. I work a full time job, and haven't done much with IM because of it. Call it laziness, or lack of focus, or whatever. I've done the whole paralysis of analysis thing, which is why I'm very familiar with the theory of IM, but I'm bad at the application of it. Even though I know what to do, I don't do it. I'm working on changing all of that. I am a work in progress.

    Hey Rob,

Ever since being kicked in the azz by ENRON back in 2001 -- yeah!, I used to work for THAT Enron!! -- I've been holding several pretty solid and stable full-time 8-to-5 (but actually more like 7:30-to-8pm) jobs, while "tinkering" with IM and MLM and Gifting and Matrices and whatever else grand theft money schemes looked bright & shiny to me!

But not until I started working on my "mental" game, just this year, did I start taking this great IM game more seriously.

Because I "tinkered" with IM and making money online in the past,....s"tinkie' money is exactly what I made! (zero to peanuts$$!)..........(Believe me, bro,.....the wife was NONE too happy about ANY of it!!!.....About damn near got divorced TWICE already now,......since doing my "IM thing".

But like I said,..just this year (2012)..I've taken a more serious commitment,...truly viewing my IM endeavor(s) as a true solid and steadily growing business, by hooking myself up with coaches and mentors that are already (and still are) exactly where I want to be, and doing exactly what I want to be doing.

...All the while holding the steady FT j.o.b.,.....working long hard hours,....then coming home to do "Daddy duty" with my 2 angel kiddos and hubby to my highly skeptical & non-believing bride........ We gotta do, what we gotta do, Bro!

But I do know one thing, Rob.....when you just have that fire, that inner drive, that burn, inside you that knows that you Can and Will do it,...and you already see it,..and expect it to happen,......I dunno, man,......amazing things just seem to happen,..and are happening,...to get you to exactly where you want to be.

    Cheers, Rob!

Build out those two great sites of yours, Bro! Good Shtuff!

    ....The Best,....is Yet,..to Come......

Full time plus long commute (seems to be common!), IM whenever I get alone time from the wife =P

Co-worker and I just formed an IM team... he knows a lot about programming and wordpress, I know a lot about IM, SEO, and web design practices. We're going to team up and make several authority blog sites and optimize them in every possible way for not only monetization, but informing/educating our users, providing a true GENUINE experience, and making them come back for more!!!

Barely making enough right now to pay our hosting/registration costs, but when all the foundation has been laid I feel it's going to really work out!

on july, 1st it will be a year since i closed my private lessons agency. i loved working with the kids but the job totally burned me out. in my spare time i had already worked on my hobby site (a digital scrapbooking site - yes, you can make money with that LOL) and it turned out well. so my mum and i decided that it´s time to change something for me, for her, for our life. i earned great money in my private lessons agency but i know that it built up over the years and did not come from one day to the other. you need to be able to stand all the doubts inside you - that´s the most important entrepreneur session i learned over the years.
to make a long story short - i now work full time on IM or generally on the internet. we could increase our income but i know it will still take time to get where i want to be :-)
    good luck to you!

I used to work in addition to my Internet marketing business. It's been five years now that I'm working for myself and doing what I love to do! The best recommendation I can give to those who are trying to get their online business moving faster and make enough money to quit their job is to focus on time management.

When you're getting back from work, you're tired, frustrated, and nervous. You don't want to work when you're feeling that way, make sure to spend the time with your family and kids before you're starting, and when they go to sleep (your kids), you can then start working on your online business.

This one tip took me from where I was to where I wanted to be in 6 months.

Also, read as much as you can, on time management, marketing, sales, and related books. If you don't have the time, go for audio books. But make sure that you learn something new each day!

    Cheers,

    Mike

So many awesome responses from everyone. It's always interesting to see what people are working full-time in addition to IM and who is working full-time in IM. It's also motivating to hear the stories of people who have once worked full-time jobs but left them once their internet marketing careers began to outpace the earnings of their original positions.

It can be hard to get any IM work done each week with all of the other work and family commitments, but with planning and focus it can be done.

I worked full time back in 1997-2002 as I grew my IM business. 97 to 98 I was in the army at a slow dispensary, and was able to work on my site at work, which was awesome. 98 to 2002 I was a police dispatcher and could sometimes write stuff at work, when I worked the night shift. That was cool too.

2002 -2006 I was going to school full time and had just had a baby and had very little time for my biz, but it kept cranking out money which was great.

2006 I quit school and haven't looked back. At this point, I can barely find three hours a day to work on my websites. If I had to go back to work at 8 hours a day I think I would die.

I used to work full-time, but I became frustrated by not being able to use my full potential doing IM. I finally bit the bullet and embraced IM full-time since about one year. This has been the best year ever in terms of personal satisfaction and fulfillment. I don't make as much money, yet, but I have a lot more time for my hobbies and family, and I'm my own boss. It doesn't get better than that.

I am supposed to be part time but they're using me 40 hrs/wk. I am HOPING they stop needing me full time so I can concentrate on getting some web sites up and running and bringing in some $.

I was making $1000/month finally but now Google pulled the rug out from under my web pages, banished me to the back pages.

Great question! Most internet marketers that I know, including myself, first got started by working on their internet marketing businesses part time. As their businesses began to make regular money they reinvested some of their profits and grew their internet marketing businesses.

I currently work a 40 hour week and continue to work on my IM business. Luckily I'm freelance so I can do those 40 hours over 4 days and devote one full day a week to my IM business.
The trouble is that while I'm at my main job I constantly think about my IM biz and it can be distracting.
My point is this - don't become too distracted by your IM biz to the detriment of your main job, at least not until you can replace your main income!

Keep on pushing guys - I remember that feeling when I quit my job around 10 years ago! Awesome, like walking on air.

I quit a $50k a year job with the biggest company in the world (ExxonMobil) and since then I've made millions online so it's fair to say I made the right decision! ;-)

The trick is to make the leap at the right time - some people need to have 100% of their costs covered by IM before jumping, others just 50%. Do what feels right but you have to push yourself out of your comfort zone.

I work as a manager for a large firm which sucks doo doo, I have a house that likes to grow weeds in the yard, a kid that still craps its nappies, a labrador that is planning world domination, a MRs that wants me to do everything except sleep with her (lol) and in the rest of my time I try to squeeze my copy writing, gym, beer time with buddies and general life stuff in.

Oh! Look. My lab just used my 1 year old's crap to make a nuclear weapon and fire it at the kitchen. There goes half my day.

I work from home as full timer and freelancer, mainly as freelancer. I am software and web developer. I am planning full time into IM by launching my 1st WSO soon. I have so many ideas for IM and it needs money and time to realize my dream.

I was working full time but left the job in 2010. now i am concentrating on Internet jobs. I prefer to stay at home and earn money since i have a small kid to take care of. But full time work+ Im would be hectic. So go for full time job but do im for few hours like evening 7 to 9 like that , not more than that. You might spoil your heath. once you get some steady income from IM start doing it ful time.

I would say most people here just do IM part time. That's my experience at least.

I work full-time from 9-5 and doing IM in the evenings. So far I have not made any money but that's because I need to focus on my IM biz more. I have learned a lot in the past two since I decided to do IM but have not implemented anything. For 2012, I decided to focus and implement what I have learned. Kudos to all the Warriors that have money.
