Sounds like he's obviously gaming Google. Sites like this tend to rocket to the top and then crash once Google figures out they shouldn't have been there in the first place.

His business model is classic churn and burn blackhat search engine marketing. He gets up to #1 on Google as quickly as possible and make the most money he can while he's there. After they deindex him he's going to do another, then another, and he'll keep on churning and burning and laughing all the way to the bank as he cashes large commission checks in the middle of the worst economic climate since the Great Depression.

Blackhat methods are ruthlessly effective. Whitehat is good for the long term, but if you want some instant cash do what he's doing!

We'd have to see the site. Any suggestions would be purely speculation. It sounds like a blog farm though.

yeah, that's typical automated blog farm and content generation stuff from the blackhat community.

The problem is that if google catches on, it can often quickly follow the trail of blogs and de-index them, and the blackhatter often has to start over. Typicaly they (the BH guys) will have a TON of different things going so that losing a money site doesn't kill all of their income.

Is he using free or hosted Wordpress? And is there some way of doing something similar but white hat so the stories do relate? I'm relatively new to all this so could do with your help.

One other note about "blackhat methods":

While they are "ruthlessly effective", the ones that really work the best cost a ton of money and time to implement.

That said, the reason the black hatters do it is because it's a "numbers" game:
they make more money than they spend, so it "pays" for them to do it.

However, make no mistake about it: they have very large expenses that eat away at those "profits" that you are seeing.

      very interesting,

I would love to get all my sites ranked at the top of the search engines for all my keywords. I can just imagine what that guys checks looks like. Especially if the terms get a lot of searches.

What other stuff than hosting, domains, and possible time costs a lot?
think hundreds and even thousands of domian purchases a month.. and DEDICATED servers scattered across different hosts. Dedicated because the scripts they use will often bring a server to it's knee's, different hosts because they need to hide their trail as much as possible.

          You're exactly right, Jason!

I personally know a few BH folks who normally purchase 2,500 to 3,000 domains per month,
and maintain dozen of big dedicated servers distributed across multiple hosts and countries - all for an ungodly amount of money.

Plus, they have quite an army of people that they employ to implement all thos blogs, on a continual basis.

Without doing it on the massive scale that they do, it would never be worthwhile in terms of net profit.

ken makes an important point here.. most people who consistantly do well in the BH world pay for numerous dedicated servers from various host providers, register their domains with different companies (using diffetrent names), etc.

They will often have thousands of sites up at any one time, making new ones in bulk every day (with the associated expense of buying tons of domain names all the time). It's not easy money, and it takes technical skills and money.

Yes, I think they call it a rolling blog farm. What they do is roll up the links that have the oldest age and remove them before Google gets around to de-indexing them as splogs so the links are used for around 3 weeks and removed and round and round they go. You need automated scripts to make this work because of the thousands of blogs involved to get the right link juice. Part of the scheme involved subdomains that never linked to the main domain. As they burnt out, another subdomain would take its place.

    Hello Orri,
Your description sounds very similar to a blog post I was reading the other day.

Source: Google Torpedoes Navy: You Sunk my Battleship!

Bill worked his way up where he was purchasing hundreds of domains per day and was hosting thousands of domains across more than 65 dedicated servers. He was pulling in more than $60,000 per month from Google Adsense.

    $60,000+ per Month . . . on 1 Adsense account.

Here's the kicker: All his content across his entire Network of thousands of sites was spun from a total of about 45 sentences. So you could Google one of his sentence fragments and find his entire Network.

Yes you can! Just build backlinks for your pages as well. You could submit your sites RSS feed to directories and do automated trackbacks amongst other things...

Thanks for posting this thread it has shown me a little more again in my quest to see the over all big picture.
I am preocupied with running sites that sell physical products and how to get them on page 1 for SERP.
These discussions on black hat seo with sites run jus to get revenue from Adsense or Clickbank have opened another dimension for me.
The more discussions like this one the better and I liked the artilce re the Navy
Its always excelent when people add in little clickable links to articles relevant to the thread.
