Who are the top 5-10 Gurus in the internet markting niche right now?

If not gurus, atleast people of a higher status such as Alex Jeffreys.

Thanks in advance

-Jeff

for me its Jim Daniels, Jim Cockrum, Marlon Sanders, Jim J Jones, and Ken Envoy. And you could include Skip McGrath. (not neccessarily in that order).

Others may offer up different gurus. The best guru is the one you can relate to and whose methods you can adopt, adapt, and assimilate for your own best results.

    Dude,
there are so many of them I
do not even know where to start.

All I know is my mentor is a fine one,
earns a lot and that's it.

I seriously doubt anyone has enough
sales to say they are the best.
After all, there are no polls.

Mike Filsaime, Rich Schefren, Frank Kern, John Reese - these would be Big Players

and the like of John Thornhill, Omar Martin, Michael Cheney would also be worthwhile having a look at.

Why are you asking anyway, Jeff?

Are you compiling some kind of ebook or something?

Anyway, yeah, there are so many people who have been there and done that, and have earned the right to make people listen whenever they speak.

I do follow Ken Evoy quite a bit

Absolutely spot on there, these are the big players!

I also like Ryan Lee he has a no nonsense approach that is easy to follow and you don't get lost in all the fluff like some others!

    The answer is subjective.

You'll be hard pushed to find a group of people who everyone will agree with.

There have already been several people mentioned who I would not consider Gurus but others obviously do.

Different people have different criteria for making their decision.

For some people just the fact that someone has made more than them makes them a guru. For others they just need to have seen some sort of big launch. For others they need to know that the person was not a one-hit-wonder and that they have some proper fundamental expertise and knowledge, or have some length of time with their success.

For me, it's the guys who I've seen constantly bringing new value and/or making their business about more than just themselves or making money.

    My list would include:

    John Reese
    Willie Crawford
    Frank Kern
    Mike Filsaime
    Ed Dale
    Marlon Sanders

These are all people I respect and have seen well above average value from.

I will check out some of the names mentioned and see what they are doing. Good post , thanks for the input.

I dont really know that well either the few I could think of are mentioned about.

      What's all hype?

Who says you have to "idolize" them?

Sounds like you have an attitude problem.

I learned more from Marlon chatting to him over dinner than I have from most IMers, why wouldn't I call him a Guru - he walks like one and talks like one (actually I'm not sure about the talking, but he's certainly interesting )

No, no attitude at all. Sorry if it came off that way. Marlon is great, along with the others mentioned. My issue is that I think people get too caught up in what a "guru" is doing rather than trying to learn at their own pace. The fact that they are a "guru" isn't relevant at all, and IMO misguided. Furthermore just because something is working for someone doesn't mean it'll work the same for another. Another example is people like Dan Kennedy and Frank Kern have learned most of their marketing via classic marketing books/information. They don't deny or hide this. I'm interested in core concepts. I don't care if that's from a no-name marketer, or a popular "guru".

I agree. I didn't see where the OP said we had to have dilusions or hyped up false impressions of them. I'm pretty sure you loaded that into your answer on your own

I couldn't care less who someone is. I don't even really care what level of success they've had as (like you say) just because someone has been successful once doesn't mean they could do it again, or teach anyone else how to do it. Sometimes success is just down to being in the right place at the right time.

But I do love to meet people who are on a similar wavelength to me about happiness and success in general, and while I don't usually use the term guru, I have met a lot of people over the years and some of them stand out.

If didn't find that process addictive...this biz would bore me to death to be quite honest...I get bored very easily.
You're right. I guess my point was more in the fact that everyone has the ability to be successful (me, you, everyone). So rather than focusing on the fact that they are a guru and the "in" thing... focus on how they got there and what tools THEY used. Trying to mimic them or following their marketing when you don't even know the basics of PPC, affiliate marketing, etc. is missing the mark.

Mark Cuban, among other things founded Audionet.com which later became Broadcast.com which was acquired by Yahoo for over 5 billion dollars in 1999 but not before he grew it to over 300 employees and grossed 13 million within a year or so.

Robert Heriavec founded BRAK systems which grew to be Canada's largest internet security company back in 1990. He eventually sold it for 100 million to AT&T.

Now you asked who are the players right now but I think that many of these players could learn a thing or two from the real giants of interment marketing.

I thought The Gurus were a rock band from the late sixties, formed after the Beatles got back from India...

Seriously, though, Andy has a point about any list being subjective. Without violating rule 1, if we compiled a list of all the suggestions here:

      > A handful are people I respect a lot.
      > A handful are people I wouldn't trust to tell the sun rose in the east without my own watch, compass and window.
      > Most I've barely heard of or not at all.

As for my own list, it would change depending on what I wanted to learn.

honestly, most of the people you really need to be learning how to make money on the internet from are not in the IM or MMO niche. It is far to small a niche with relatively little money in it to attract most of the real talent when it comes to making money online.

If you really know how to make money online, the IM niche is just not a very attractive niche.

      Guru:

      1. In Hinduism - a preceptor giving personal religious instruction.
      2. an intellectual or spiritual guide or leader.
      3. any person who counsels or advises; mentor.
      4. a leader in a particular field.

A "guru" isn't necessarily a "big" name. Nor are they always the ones in the spotlight.

There are a number of people who quietly make a lot of money, and you'd never suspect it. My biz mentor is one.

Everyone will have a different list, and I know if I listed the people I look up to and respect, biz-wise, I'd leave some out. So I won't.

Different work ethics, work styles, biz models and personalities - they can all contribute to why one person's guru is on another person's "yawn list."

In short, you need to find your own gurus.

Meh. Every person out there who sells a lot of crap online starts to call themselves a guru eventually, mostly because it just helps them sell more crap.

In reality, there are very few "new" ideas coming out there from the big group of so-called "gurus" in the internet marketing niche.

Ultimately, everything they have to say tends to boil down to "find a demand for a product, then build the product people want, then sell it to those people".

Every so often, someone will come up with a new tactic for marketing the product, like building a list and doing a product "launch" instead of having a static sales page, etc.

But really it all just comes back to selling something that someone else wants to buy, and nearly anyone who's been selling anything online can tell you that.

Really? Can you name 5 people in this business who call themselves gurus?

          Or even 3?

I've occasionally heard or read someone referring to themselves as something like a "Wordpress security guru" or "MySQL guru," but I can't recall the last marketer I knew who described him-or herself that way.

Exactly what I was thinking. I've actually found that most successful people hate to be called Gurus and it's definitely NOT usually a self-applied tag.

I don't mind calling Marlon or Frank Gurus because I've met them both and I've learned from them both. I've never heard either of them call themselves a guru.
