How To Know A Good Fiverr Gig From A Bad one

Depending on what you are looking for, Fiverr can be a great place for outsourcing your work. The advice below however, applies to all outsourcing sites, not just Fiverr.

The quality of work however, varies wildly and it can be difficult to tell a good Gig from a bad one. This is because every buyer seems to be giving positive feedback regardless of whether the work is good or not.

I find the same trend exists in other sites like Odesk and Elance.

I've received some terrible work from sellers that have 100% positive feedback with hundreds of reviews.

So how do you tell a good Gig from a bad one?

Read the reviews.

A bad Gig is likely to have very short reviews that always say the same thing, like...

"Delivered on time, thanks"
"Excellent work"
"Good stuff, just what I wanted"
"Thanks great!!!!!"
"Great work, thanks "
The above comments are ones left by people who were sorely disappointed, will never request work from this guy again, and just wanted to say something positive in order to avoid conflict. Everyone wants to avoid conflict these days!

A good Gig, on the other hand, will have longer feedback, with more descriptive and unique praise. Examples:

"Oh my GOD! [name], you're a genius! Why are you charging $5 for this???? If I had the money I would pay you £100! Unfortunately I don't, but I'm going to purchase 3 more gigs just to say thanks!"
"great job man! did well with a lengthy script... Definitely one of the best Gigs i've received on fiverr. he comes across as very natural and conversational. order now, you won't regret working with [name]!"
"You nailed it, great job! Will have more work for you soon."
"[name] delivers as promised for the second time for me. I highly recommend her services and will be doing more business in the future!!!"
By following the above, I'm now able to easily locate good Gigs, and am yet to receive a single bad one.

    I have never seen any gig get the reviews you said below. And when I buy, even when it's very good, I don't leave long reviews.

    Yes, that's a pretty clear indicator on what a good quality Fiverr gig is.

    I always look for gigs that have detailed positive feedback as it gives me more reasons to buy.

    Another thing is that you need to understand that the seller only gets $4 for the sale. So if you go for an SEO related gig just think twice about what they actually do.

    A gig promising 2000 natural high pr backlinks or something seems enticing at the time, you must realize that the seller is most likely clicking the "Go" button on their automatic spammy backlink program.

      Exactly right dadamson. I don't use Fiverr at all for content creation or SEO.

        I agree to a point, but I've found many great providers with a lot of short reviews.

        In fact, I've found most reviews on fiverr to be real even if they are short. Because of the nature of fiverr most people do not leave long reviews. I leave short reviews. Many times one reason the reviews all look similar is when people order multiple gigs at the same time. They probably aren't going to leave a different review for each one.

        Also look at how much they are spread out. If a gig has a bunch of very short reviews all within a short time then they could be suspect.

        Other suggestions for finding good providers. Usually the more reviews the better. Active providers who do good work usually get a lot of reviews. When is the last review? If it was this week that shows they are active. If it's been months (or sometimes weeks) I probably won't use them.

        If you are still worried, send a private message and ask a question about the gig. If they respond it shows they are active and will to respond.

        Those are just a few tips how to find good providers. Once you get a number or providers you trust you have a great resource. I've used some of my providers for years.

        I used fivverr successfully for since it started and rountinuly resell gigs for services including seo and content creation.

        After doing all this you will occasionally still get a bad provider. But remember it's still only $5 and just one good provider can earn you hundreds or thousands of dollars over time.

      Short feedback comments indicate a bad gig? Bzzzt. It might have some merit if buyers were forced to leave feedback but they're not and many don't.

      If only there were some source, you know, like a blog or something, people could read to find the good gigs...

        I just find that when people are delighted with a Gig, they tend to say more in the feedback they leave. It's a general trend.

          Maybe, but that doesn't prove the reverse.

          It doesn't even prove your assertion. Some people are chatty, tuned into the social aspect of Fiverr and easily wowed. Others aren't.

          You're also using pretty small sample sizes in most cases.

          In any event, I wouldn't pass on someone's gig because the only feedbacks were short ones. Sometimes a gig is just a commodity.

            I would agree with the forward opinion but not the reverse.

            A good gig may have all short reviews for all that one knows.

            But a gig with a few long and positive reviews (possibly with many other short ones) has a better likelihood to be good.

            This does not mean that gigs with all reviews short but practically all reviews good are actually not so good. That could simply be a luck factor.

    Now I feel guilty. Even if a Fiverr gig is perfect I still only put a few words like "good provider, good work, delivered on time" etc..

    I've found the sometimes the dodgy testimonials are the long-winded ones that say way too much about how great a simple $5 service was.

    I kinda look at gigs the same way as u but not to the same extent. I don't buy gigs any more well backlinking anyway. Never great quality, always use my own services or someone else that is established and trusted.

    I still see them crazy rave reviews on fiverr gigs and they turn about to be a load of tripe.

    and I've seen some with lots of short reviews that turned out to be really good.

    Generally speaking I think you're right though, rave reviews are more likely to be good gigs than ones with short reviews .... but it's not an accurate assumption 100% of the time.

    The majority of gigs on Fiverr tend to be a load of tosh anyway but you get what you pay for .. well usually anyway.

    I also feel a bit controversial on this - I have always tried to over-deliver and do quality work for all my fiverr buyers. Some of them leave feedback, some don't. And for some that I WAY over-delivered for, I only got a "good, thanks" from...

    People with different personalities will leave different feedback. The social people will naturally always leave longer comments.

    But all in all - I agree with the OP. I tend to really check out the feedback before I try a new fiverr gig. If there are any thumbs down, I often go check them out to see if they are valid, etc.

    I think one of the reasons bad work gets good feedback on fiverr is because you don't realize you are actually leaving positive feedback. Once the seller marks your work complete fiverr automatically changes your convo submit box into a customer feedback box. So it can be easy to think your simply asking the seller a question, not leaving a feedback. Its a little misleading to me.

    Just make sure to actually read the feedback don't just look at their score.

      That's a good point. That would explain why I see people asking procedural questions in feedback.

      If you're a seller and you find this happening, you can contact the customer and ask them to change their feedback. I think most people don't know they can actually modify it.
