My IE browser is driving me crazy

If anyone can help me figure this out, I would be thankful.

My IE browser is being difficult. If I happen to click twice on the tab, it closes.
If I click the back button it goes back, not one but two sites. Sometimes the
tab just closes, when I go to another tab.

When I click to highlight, it will only highlight if I go bacwards not forward or just
the opposite, or highlights whole sentance. Or maybe won't highlight, or highlights
when I just want to place the curser between words to add something.

I had a recent windows update, so went back before that time, but
I don't know what is causing this. Would it be a bug, or would it be
a problem within the browser script?(maybe it updated recently.)

Thanks for your help. I am about to go nuts trying to work with this
crazy thing today.

Jeannie

    hi jeannine

if you insist on using internet explorer and are using ie7 then search for ie7pro, i would give you the url but it wont let it me post one just yet

i found this to be a great upgrade and hope version 8 includes ome of its features

it may also fix the problems you are experiencing, if i am not mistaken in ie7 when you double click the tab it does close it...

Jeannie - there are some extremely virulent viruses and worms out there right now that start out by just seeming to be minor annoyances and problems. Scan the bejeebers out of you computer with Avast or AVG - they are free and about the only programs out there that pick up some of this stuff.
Then grab Crap Cleaner - also free and run it when you get online each time before you open a browser.

Then install Firefox and if you want it to do more than it does - go get some plugins - there are a wide variety you can add to Firefox for just about anything you want to do.

THen forget you ever HEARD of IE.

I have to agree with Sal, just recently I was reading about some "holes" in IE so windows created a patch that didn't work.

I use firefox 2.0 had ff3 didn't like it. with some diligence you can still find 2.0 out there.

I also use super anti spyware. it too is free and have found that it will detect stuff others miss.

      Good luck

Thanks, I have ccleaner, adaware, spybot and a couple others. I took AVG off recently to try another, but will put it back on because

I took avast off this evening, to see if that would make a difference. The puter has always run super slow since I put that on a few weeks ago...

I did not get very far in answering people because the memory on the computer
got low. I have been running several virus programs today. I even tried a trial one,
and it says I have a trojan.

So that is at least part of the problem

Reed, no, I cannot say I went back to before the problem. I will follow
your directions. Thanks for the in depth info.

I appreciate everyones help. I am currently re installing AVG and will run it to see if it will pick up the Trojan without me having to buy the other program.

I used to use IE only, now I don't go there unless it's to check my sites to see if anything I've done to them has gone wacky in IE which happens now and then due to wacky IE stuff.

I really don't want to even use it then, I'm on there maybe 2 minutes and gone. Firefox and Flock is all I use now.

            Amen to that.

One of the problems with IE is that you can't "uninstall it" the same way
as you do other programs because its an integral part of windows. (That's
what all the lawsuits are about.) One of mine (maybe this one) has had a
minor glitch with IE for a year. I gave up tryin' to find it ages ago. I almost
never use IE anyway. I don't build sites on this one and the only time I switch
around to IE is to check out how the new sites look in different browsers.

            Tom

Edit: Teo, I don't think I remember ever having a datbase problem with the
AVG update. That's one of the things I like about it. It auto updates everyday
at 03:00. (my choice of times) Avast is an OK program, I guess, I just have
            never cared for it.

    Jeannie,

You have one to multiple issues that relate to IE, upgrades / patches, configuration issues or even a faulty mouse.
Check your settings under options for the functionality of your tabs. You can set them up many ways in IE and Firefox.

From what I can tell you recovered to a previous state before the problems, correct?

With that said start your upgrade path again:
    *newest IE version
    *reboot (yes it is important)
*apply or re-apply XP SP3 (assuming you are using XP)
    *reboot (yes again)

To fix this you will need to use these type of diagnostics steps and yes it is very frustrating.

I have been a computer technician for almost 20 years so just drop me a line if you have further problems after these basic steps.

I agree that FF and Chrome will ease your misery. I use IE only to QA sites that I or my team builds. I've not used IE as a browser in several years now.

Skip Firefox and go straight to FLOCK! Much better and it uses Firefox extensions.

Plus there is an IE tabs Firefox extension that allows you to open a new tab and/or window in Firefox or Flock that is really running IE. I have to use it to access some accounts, etc that only work with IE.

J, Most of the scan and pay programs are always gonna tell you about a
problem only they can fix if you buy their stuff. Without mentioning any
names, Registry Mechanic (oops) has got to be one of the worst. I advise
most users except the most experienced that the only thing they're ever
gonna find in their registry is trouble. Stay out of there. If its really a
problem with registry (in this case I doubt it) let a good tech go looking.

Are you seeing this kind of behaviour elsewhere?

Could be your mouse either needs cleaning, or replacing.

I suggest you uninstall the old IE with the new one, before install IE scan your computer for viruses or malware, fix windows registry, defrag your HDD then install your IE.

If your IE still having this problem try use system restore choose a date before your IE has this problem.

If this doesn't solve your IE problem. I suggest use firefox.
