The Fastest Way to Get Good Images for Blog Posts

Providing your approach to blogging isn't polluting the search engines with 'auto blogs', then one of the ways to set your blog apart from others is to use decent images in your posts.

If you're like me, you don't like to be paying for images that are merely for blogging.

However, if you're also like me, it can sometimes be a torrid experience getting good images which suit the content.

Images which you're legally allowed to use with attribution.

Well, there's now a service which makes it a lot easier.

PhotoPin: Photo Pin : Free Photos for Bloggers via Creative Commons

It uses the Flickr API and searches creative commons photos to use for your blog.

I found it to be a quick and useful way to find decent images.

I trust it's helpful.

        Great business idea by photopin.

        Just create a script that sorts the images in order of relevance/recency/interestingness, and get billions of backlinks in a short period of time - then flog the website, once it's 'the fastest growing blah blah type of website' and you've monetised it with ads/flogging off the data.

        The concept goes viral quickly, cheaply and easily (see this thread).

        Who pays for this? The saps who put their photos on flickr.

        Notice that the linking text provides a backlink to photopin, creative commons and flickr - NOT the person who went to all of the trouble of taking nice photos (because they chose to put their work on flickr.)

        Lots of lessons here. I'm surprised no one else noticed.

        Three outbound links for each image you use? Hmmmm.

        I wonder how many people won't notice that it appears to select 'non commercial' by default, but will use the images on a commercial website?

          Hey Roger,

          I actually don't use the generated html provided by PhotoPin.

          I strip out the url which links directly to the photo on the users profile.

          And you can easily select 'commercial' in the checkbox on the left.

          Maybe it's just me, but I find it a convenient tool.

    This is brilliant! This will be a helpful site. I always take my own photos and I must say that its far from the quality we can get from photopin. They will save me lots of time and hassle of uploading.
