Are product categories profitable?

INTERNET MARKETING

Hey guys.

I'm in the process of making a site of a product category that has 20k+ searches per month (EXACT MATCH), let's say for example if it was "computer desks".

On everybody's experience here, would that be a good keyword to rank for? you think it's worth the effort? (keyword is kinda competitive)

EDIT/DISCLAIMER: "computer desks" is not the keyword I'm targeting, it was just an example =)

This is really a good fit for a review site... reviewing different computer desks and promoting them via Amazon or through an affiliate program or just monetize with advertising, adsense or something else.

If thats the keyword you could try to rank for that. However IMO it would be way too competitive for your new site to get a decent rank for that. I would rather go with a less competitive keyword.

If it has a high competition, lower than 0.5, and if the keyword is on exact match, than you can go for it. 20k per month it's pretty well.
