Facebook Likes for Homepage or Fanpage

I offer the Facebook-Like Button on every page of my site. I'm currently setting the like to my facebook fanpage. But I'm not sure if I would better just let people like my homepage (the domain).

I thought I use a fanpage since I want to reach people after the like with updates.
As I have seen, facebook is creating an admin-page for me whenever someone likes a page of my site, for that page. And you can send updates to those users too. So I could use my homepage now too.

Maybe there is even a benefit for SEO, when people like my homepage/domain instead of the facebook fanpage!?

    URL-Likes will benefit you for SEO purposes, due to it being used as one of the ranking signals.

    Facebooks seems confusing. Im not sure if I should go with a fanpage for my website and product or encourge likes to just the homepage. Can somebody elaborate on that ?

    With a fanpage you can build an audience simular to building a list since they can see and share your content on their Facebook timeline. Using this can increase the "Likes" to your home page and the size of your list by promoting to your targeted fanpage group.

    Does the actual number of Homepage likes increase your ranking in the search engine?

    You would think Facebook would count the domain and fanpage likes together since they are linked together.
