Best sites for side income / articles / freelancer?

Have a fulltime gig but enjoy writing and article writing. Born & raised US writer and not up for writing for .01/word either. Where are the best places to get article writing and/or side work jobs like these that pay? Just looking to supplement income vs having to grab a part time job at a retail type store. Tried freelancer and odesk but you're competing with outsourced indian writers at .01/word there and it's not worth a 100 word article for a buck in my world.

Any help appreciated. Thanks!!

Start your own blog - this can make you more money than revenue sharing sites. Revenue sharing sites went down the drain with Panda last year and now they are waste of time. Start your own blog, write as frequently as you can, put some Adsense, Amazon, etc. ads - you get the idea.

I am soon to release a report that has a ton of links to sites where you can find work, some well paid and others not as much but it is worth checking out.
Meanwhile, Google "well paid freelance writing jobs" and you will get a ton of good info.

thanks all for the info. need to get something approved for constant-content and will go there. i'd rather not compete for a listing vs their format of someone requesting an article and having competing for them...

lawrencewins: will look that up. thanks.....

You could apply at DemandStudios.com. Granted, they're picky as hell and you'll have to deliver a good writing sample. But if u get accepted, the pay is generally really good.

This week i wrote a bunch of tech/computing articles for $25 each. Most of these articles were no more than 200 words. The pay rate varies per category (or sections, as they call it nowadays) but it's never less than $15, and the word count average is 400.

In your writing sample, try to submit something with an authoritative tone...an article written in active voice. Say, "Click the Start menu, followed by Microsoft Word" instead of "You may also click the Start menu and launch Microsoft Word."

Shock them with your expertise and you should be fine. They dont have as many titles as they did a few years ago, but they do release a decent amount here and there.

Another site is TextBroker.com. I see a lot of titles there that pay about 1.5 cent/word or more. Others pay 2 and 3 cents.

So apply to both places and keep your fingers crossed.

You could also try a freelance site like oDesk or Freelancer as there are lots of postings about wanting article writers in there. Good pay too.

I do really well selling direct-response copy on odesk (I bill at 27/hr there), but honestly I must admit the article writing jobs there look like crap most of the time. But apparently some people do okay with them.

I haven't seen much article writing on oDesk but the quality of them on Freelancer are good looking at the writers portfolios.

Even n freelance or odesk, as far as you can show some good writing or good portfolios, you are still able to get the job. I have posted some jobs there and a tonnes of people applying, but I don't generally pick the one with lowest rate. I would look at the sample writing too. If its good, I don't mind paying more. One way you can do is also actively applying for the jobs, you may land yourself a couple of jobs even in those competitive sites.

How about paid guest blogging? The 'payment' element seems to be a (welcome) trend on the rise with some blogs paying $50 or more per post. Naturally the standard of writing would need to be exceptional, but worthy of further investigation. Helps if you already have a blog that can showcase your talent.

Just do a Google search for paid guest blogging, you'll find a fair few sites pointing you in the right direction.

      Good luck!
